Happy New Year!
Sending all the positive vibes to everyone for 2024. 2023 was a pretty good year for movies, I think we had a lot of good stuff that came out and as per usual I’m very behind but I hope to do better this year.
But it’s a New Year! We have new movies, new content, new actors and characters to meet and fall in love with, not to mention returning to ones we love and are familiar with. This list is for the movies and tv shows coming out in 2024 that I’m excited for. As per usual, I will also have a list of movies/tv shows that I’m not really anticipating but I still would be interested in seeing.
Also, movies always pop up throughout the year that I didn’t know about, so they may not appear on this list.
Anticipated Movies/Shows I Really Want To See
January
February
Abbott Elementary Season 3 – Feb 7(ABC/Hulu): Follows a group of teachers brought together in one of the worst public schools in the country, simply because they love teaching. What a quality show. Can’t wait!
Avatar: The Last Airbdender – Feb 22 (Netflix): Live-action adaptation of the animated series centering on the adventures of Aang and his friends, who fight to save the world by defeating the Fire-Nation. The animated show is fantastic, top tier. I haven’t watched it in a long while but it has a lasting impact. Fans, these characters and the story overall deserves another chance at a quality live action outing, and fingers crossed that it’s good. It’s already heartening to see the people of color involved, (though side eyeing the actor for Sokka). So, here’s hoping it’s good.
Check out my Trailer Reaction:
March
Dune: Part Two – March 1: Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. The first movie is extremely good, I read the book a while ago so I can’t wait to see how they adapt the second half of the book.
Check out my trailer reaction:
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – March 29: When the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age. I enjoyed the first one and while I’m not super anticipating it, I feel like I’m anticipating it more than not… and the trailers seem fun. So why not?
April
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire- April 12: Plot kept under wraps. This trailer is so much fun! I enjoy the other movies, well mostly the Kong vs Godzilla one so I’m into it! Let’s have them team up and fight!
May
Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 – May 16 (Netflix): The eight close-knit siblings of the Bridgerton family look for love and happiness in London high society. Who told them it was okay to do two parts? So dumb but I’m excited. I can’t wait to see Penelope’s glow up and to see Colin grovel for her hand…also more Kanthony. Check out my S1 and S2 reviews.
June
The Bikeriders – June 21: Follows the rise of a midwestern motorcycle club as it evolves over the course of a decade – from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s way of life. I haven’t watched this trailer yet, honestly I didn’t even know there was a trailer, it snuck in… but my boyfriend Austin Butler is in it so I gotta support.
A Quiet Place: Day One – June 28: Plot unknown. Is this the one that Joseph Quinn was cast in? If so, cool and I’m happy for him. Either way, I have enjoyed both A Quiet Place movies and I’m interested in seeing more of this world. (Been pushed back another year).
July
August
September
Beetlejuice 2 – Sep 7: This is a follow-up to the comedy Beetlejuice (1988), about a ghost who’s recruited to help haunt a house. I mean, I love the original film and the fact that it’s been over 30 years and they want to do a sequel? Michael Keaton reprising his role? Okay. Winona Ryder returning… okay. Jenna Ortega adding another stone to her Spooky Infinity Gauntlet? Okay. Let’s do it.
October
November
Wicked: Part One – Nov 24: The story of how a green-skinned woman framed by the Wizard of Oz becomes the Wicked Witch of the West. The first of a two-part feature film adaptation of the Broadway musical. I’ve never seen the musical in person but I was quickly obsessed with the soundtrack. I think the cast is interesting and great and I can’t wait to see how it’s adapted. Very curious to see how Ariana Grande does as Galinda. So much anticipation honestly lol.
December
Mufasa: The Lion King – Dec 20: Simba, having become king of the Pride Lands, is determined for his cub to follow in his paw prints while the origins of his late father Mufasa are explored. An origin story, “live action”, but I like Kelvin Harrison Jr. who is playing Scar (Taka) so… yeah. Sure, let’s see.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – Dec 20: Plot under wraps. Love the first two and very curious to see what they do with the third one. Is Jim Carrey done? They can’t have Shadow without Eggman right? I don’t know, but I’m very interested to see what they do! Also super excited for Shadow.
Untitled Jordan Peele Movie: Dec 25: No idea what this movie is but I’ve liked all the others so… let’s go!
DATES TBD:
Agatha: Coven of Chaos (Disney+): Plot kept under wraps. No idea what this is going to be like but I’m excited for more Agatha! I haven’t heard anything concrete about it so I’ll just keep it on these lists until then.
Ironheart (Disney+): Genius teenage inventor Riri Williams creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. I enjoyed her in Wakanda Forever, so I’m interested in seeing her in her own show, to see her origins and see where she goes after the film she was introduced in. I haven’t heard anything concrete about it so I’ll just keep it on these lists until then.
Knives Out 3 – There’s nothing here but I really hope they don’t call it “A Knives Out Story” and then give it some other title. I felt like that was so dumb for Glass Onion. But I really enjoyed the first two so I’m curious to see what the new mystery would be.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse – After leaving off from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the story continues. I mean, iconic comic book, superhero and animated films. I remember hearing that it was delayed indefinitely and maybe that’s still true but I’m hoping that not only does Sony pay their team the money they deserve but that the movie is quality.
Squid Games – Season 2 (Netflix): Not sure of an official plot yet but surely it’s picking up right where we left off.
The Umbrella Academy – Season 4 (Netflix): No plot as of yet but I love the show, S3 was fun but I had some major issues, like some choices they had Allison make… but anyways, interested to see how they end the show. I think it’s 2 episodes shorter, which I feel like is dumb but okay. We’ll see.
You – Season 5 (Netflix): Who knows what shenanigans Joe will get into but since he’s with Kate now, interested to see how he does with her resources.
Movies/Shows I’m Not Anticipating but Want To See:
January:
Echo (Disney+) – Jan 10: Maya Lopez must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward. I thought she was interested in Hawkeye, so I’m interested in seeing more of her story.
Mean Girls – Jan 12: Though it may look like a remake of the 2004 comedy, this new interpretation isn’t quite that. This is an adaptation of the stage musical Mean Girls, which was itself an adaptation of the original film. Angourie Rice plays new girl Cady Heron, while Reneé Rapp takes on the role of head Mean Girl Regina George. The original movie is fine, I don’t like it as much as other people but it’s very quotable and it’s funny so I’m interested in seeing the stage version adapted into film. I’ve never heard any of the songs so this would be a first.
The Book of Clarence – Jan 12: Struggling to find a better life, Clarence is captivated by the power of the rising Messiah and soon risks everything to carve a path to a divine existence. It has a great cast, James McAvoy? My man. Lakeith Stanfield? He’s always good. I’m interested and the trailer made me laugh the first time I saw it. So, yeah I’d like to see it.
February
Lisa Frankenstein – Feb 9: A coming of RAGE love story about a teenager and her crush, who happens to be a corpse. After a set of horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a journey to find love, happiness – and a few missing body parts. I don’t know, seems fun and I enjoy the Frankenstein story. So sure.
Bob Marley: One Love – Feb 14: A look at the life of legendary reggae musician Bob Marley. I’m not like super into Bob Marley to know anything about him but the movie looks good and my girl Lashana Lynch is in it… so I’ma see it.
March
Damsel – March 8: A dutiful damsel agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive. It seems fun and Millie Bobbie Brown is a great actress so I’m there.
Kung Fu Panda 4 – March 8: After Po is tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, he needs to find and train a new Dragon Warrior, while a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm. I’ve seen the first 3 maybe once each, but I thought they were all good so I think this one will also be good. But low-key irritated to hear Awkwafina… but I think she does well in voice over roles.
April
Challengers – April 26: Follows three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner, and reignite old rivalries on and off the court. This one has been pushed back to 2024 but the trailer is interesting and of course… Zendaya? Sign me up. I also really enjoyed Mike Faist in West Side Story so I’d be interested in seeing more of him.
May
The Fall Guy – May 3: Colt Seavers is a stuntman who left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health. He’s drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie, which is being directed by his ex, goes missing. The trailer was really fun so I’m interested in seeing the movie and hopefully it’s as fun as the trailer.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga – May 24: The origin story of renegade warrior Furiosa before her encounter and teamup with Mad Max. I’ve only ever seen Mad Max: Fury Road and I did enjoy it and I think Charlize Theron’s Furiosa was a memorable character so she gets the chance to have an origin story, so that’s cool AND Anya Taylor-Joy is a good casting for this, it’d be something different for her and I can see how she physically could grow up in Charlize Theron.
June
Ballerina – June 7: A young female assassin seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. I mean… sure lol. Good cast.
Inside Out 2 – June 14: Follow Riley, in her teenage years, encountering new emotions. The first one is very good and while I don’t think we need a sequel, I can see why they would want to do it. I’m interested to see how it works with the new emotions, how many new emotions and how they all handle it and how Riley grows with them.
Check out my trailer reaction here:
July
August
Kraven the Hunter – Aug 30: Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff is on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world. Listen, I’m sick of Sony and how they’re doing these villains but I love Aaron Taylor-Johnson so I’m interested in seeing him and this movie was also pushed back. Was low-key mad about them pushing it back because October would have been great for Kraven since Spider-Man 2 the video game came out but whatever lol.
Check out my trailer reaction here:
September
October
Joker: Folie à Deux – Oct 4: Plot unknown. Sequel to the 2019 film ‘Joker.’ The first one is fine, check out my review here, but interested to see how Lady Gaga does as Harley Quinn and not to mention it’s a musical type? Interesting.
Smile 2 – Oct 18: Plot under wraps. I really enjoyed the first one even though I’m not really a horror person but I thought it was good. I like Naomi Scott, so I’m interested to see what happens in this one.
November
December
Untitled Karate Kid Movie – Dec 13: Plot under wraps. Ummm, I had no idea about this. Jackie Chan AND Ralph Macchio are in it… when I see trailer then I’ll decide how much anticipation I have.
DATES TBD
The Acolyte: Star Wars series that takes viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. I like Amandla Stenberg so…. sure, I might check it out.
Bad Boys 4: Plot unknown. Fourth installment of the ‘Bad Boys’ film series. I enjoy these movies and I really enjoyed the third one… so sure.
In Broad Daylight: Follows the chronicles of an international con-artist. Mena Massoud is in it. That’s it.
Legally Blonde 3 : Plot unknown. Third installment of ‘Legally Blonde’. Know nothing about this movie but I like the first one a lot, so interested to see what other shenanigans Elle gets into.
Lily and Stitch (Disney+): Live-action remake of Disney’s animated classic ‘Lilo and Stitch’. I like the original animated movie enough so I’m curious to see how this works. How is Stitch gonna look? Will it be good? I’m always optimistic for the live action remakes so we’ll see.
Sister Act 3 – Disney+: Apparently still… so we’ll see I guess lol.
Untitled Fred Astaire Biopic – Plot under wraps. So, Tom Holland is playing Fred Astaire and I like Tom Holland and I want him to win. So…. I’ll be there but I have no other thoughts about it right now.
Looks like that’s it for now! Movies and shows always pop up throughout the year that may not be on the list but that doesn’t mean I won’t see them lol.
