Fan Casting: MCU X-MEN

x-men-main

So, as we all know, the X-men franchise in the movies has had a lot of ups and downs. A lot of ups and some downs, it really depends on how you look at it. One day I’ll watch all of them and review them (I’ve reviewed X-men: Apocalypse) but for the most part, I have liked the cast chosen to play these iconic characters.

So, when I started this post, it was last year lol and the merger between Fox and Disney wasn’t confirmed. Now that it is, I really wanted to put this out with my ideas of their casting. I think as X-men is such a large group of people that they should definitely consider really exploring the multiverse because an entire group of mutants we never knew about? I mean obviously because they didn’t exist in MCU but still lol. Also, with them now being part of the MCU, they could kind of retcon what they’ve done with Wanda and Pietro’s origins. But after Doctor Strange’s sequel, perhaps they really should do the multiverse, if Wanda breaks a hole through the universe… I mean it would be awesome. Gives the opportunity for way more heroes and villains.

Complete Restart

In my mind, when they restart, they have to restart completely. Don’t get me wrong, I looove a lot of the cast from the other movies, the older movies and the newer ones. But unfortunately, I’d only pull a few of them to come over to the MCU. Not many though. In the comics, the first group of X-men was: Scott Summers/Cyclops, Jean Grey/Marvel Girl, Hank McCoy/Beast, Bobby Drake/Iceman, and Warren Worthington III/Angel.

I think that since we haven’t seen this particular group together, it would be nice to see them to pay homage to the comics, since they were the first X-men. They can introduce Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Thunderbird and some others but I’m not going to cast everyone though.

I think in the first movie, it should be the original group or at least people we haven’t seen a lot of. So, that means NO Logan/Wolverine and NO Mystique. As much as I enjoy Logan, he’s never been my favorite X-men. Hugh Jackman really owned that character which helped me like him more. As for Mystique, Rebecca Romjin’s version was awesome and Jennifer Lawrence’s started off fine but she irritated me later. So definitely don’t need her for a while. I would even argue, we don’t need to Magneto for a little while either. I mean, he could be a looming presence but we don’t have to see him.

Sooo you’re here for my casting choices so let’s get to it! You don’t have to read anything clearly, you can just skip through the pictures. It’ll hurt my feelings but that’s okay. Oh and get used to me mentioning X-men: Evolution because I was really into that show and while I am aware of the comic book storylines, that is most of what I remember lol.

My Casting!

I’m going to cast a younger version and an older version. It just depends on where the MCU wants to start out the X-men, as teenagers/young adults or a hero whose been doing this for at least a decade and a half or something lol.

The Uncanny X-Men

Scott Summers/Cyclops.

cyclops-x-men

He is the leader of the X-men and we need to see that! We have not seen that yet and it kills me. Scott is brave, self-less, a master tactician and first-rate leader. I know he isn’t very popular with fans lol, which is fine but we haven’t had the chance to see him lead and grow in the movies and this could be that chance. He’s a leader, he’s no-nonsense and serious, dedicated and perhaps a bit of “Boy Scout” in the beginning. He can often hold a low opinion of himself and obsess over his shortcomings and failures. Socially, he has described himself as an introvert. As a leader, he is very strict and no-nonsense, demanding seriousness, dedication and skill, usually earning him the dislike of more rebellious team members. Scott also has a plethora of mental issues, bottling up his emotions and refusing to confront his issues, despite this affecting him adversely.

In the movies: James Marsden and Tye Sheridan

I really liked Tye Sheridan as Scott in X-men: Apocalypse. I don’t think they allowed him to really be the Scott that is the leader. He didn’t have much to do in Dark Phoenix other than worry about Jean lol but he wasn’t bad. James Marsden didn’t get that chance either. I’ve always liked Scott fine and he should be able to be the leader like he’s supposed to be. Of course, Tye Sheridan played him like a cool dude in his first outing and I didn’t mind that but it would also be nice to see him as the introvert he comes off as in earlier iterations. Marsden was just there unfortunately, a little smug sometimes but just there. I wouldn’t mind having Sheridan back but I think I have some better choices. FUN FACT: Kirby Morrow who voice Scott in X-men: Evolution also plays Miroku in Inuyasha. 😀

Young Scott: Graham Phillips Adult Scott: Armie Hammer

Younger: Sooo I was going to choose Nick Robinson for my younger Scott because I really like him, but Graham Phillips‘ face popped in my head. Last I saw him was in Riverdale, which I know doesn’t say much, but he played a “villainous” character and it didn’t quite work for him. Perhaps a boy scout character would work instead. He has an earnest face, I think. I know Scott has blue eyes which you don’t see most of the time, but if it is an origin story, it would be nice to flash Graham’s lovely blue eyes. But I think not only would he rock the glasses but those goggles he’d have to wear. He would be able to portray that introverted, loner personality that Scott has while also doing the “learning how to lead” aspect which would turn him confident while he’s Cyclops. Besides, Graham can come off a little awkward and it would work for Scott, make him very endearing. I think Graham could walk that fine line of being endearing and being annoying which how people view Scott anyway.

Older: I love Armie Hammer and I think he’s a great actor. I’ve seen him in many films and he can do action, especially the serious kind, if you’ve seen A Man From Uncle, regardless of your thoughts on the movie, he did a great job. Not only does he have the right physique (being tall and strong lol), but his deep voice would be a little shocking for someone who would come off so quiet. I think Armie could handle the “Boy Scout” personality of Scott, while also being an already commanding leader! Plus, Armie Hammer can skew a little older, so while he’s 32, he can present a few years older.

Honorable Mentions (Young): Nick Robinson, Ansel Elgort (meh though)

Honorable Mentions (Older):Matthew Daddario, Jeremy Sumpter, Drew Van Acker, Richard Madden

Jean Grey/Marvel Girl/Phoenix

goddess_phoenix_i_7571

So, Jean, has a lot of positive attributes, she’s loving and she loves everyone, especially those who mean a lot to her. She is very optimistic, even with the negative things. She’s very self-sacrificing. Jean has a very determined and stubborn personality, I would consider her a second-in-command type, even a leader when it’s needed because she doesn’t take carp from anyone and doesn’t know how to stay down. Of course, everyone has a wild side and Jean has that. Plus, her powers are awesome and she’s extremely powerful. I would like to see the full extent of her powers, without the Phoenix stuff, really shown on screen.

In the Movies: Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner

So, this role they kept jumping the gun with trying to get to her phoenix stuff, which hasn’t really worked out the way it might have. Janssen was fine, she was probably the best in the Cyclops, Jean, Storm group (not counting Logan). If the writing for her was handled better then I’m sure it would have been great! I also didn’t mind Sophie Turner. She did a great job in Dark Phoenixand I wouldn’t mind casting her again but I think since we’re getting new X-men I think Jean should have a fresh start as well.

Young Jean: Zoey Deutch  Adult Jean: Bridget Regan

Younger: There are a lot of choices of Jean, especially for redhead ladies, or those who can pull it off. But I chose Zoey Deutch as I was looking at young actresses and I decided on her because I like her, she’s a good actress and she can go many ways. She can skew older or younger, make her hair a bit redder and depending on the way they decide to go with Jean, she could play it. She can definitely do the vulnerable, selfless, loving and determined personality because I’ve seen her do it and she always remains likable to me. Plus, she just hasn’t seem to be someone that people know that much and I think portraying a younger Jean, it would do that for her. I think down the line, if they do the Phoenix bit, she could handle that really well without it coming off super whiny or super crazy.

Older: So, Bridget Regan. always comes up randomly when I’m fan casting and most times when she comes up, I can’t forget her lol. I think she could do an awesome Jean Grey! I remember her from this fantasy-esque TV show (Legend of the Seeker) from some years ago and she was great. Her character would be similar to Jean just a bit softer…? lol just make her hair redder of course and I think she could handle all of the emotions and characterizations Jean goes through. If they did the Phoenix thing with an “older” Jean, she could handle it.

Honorable Mentions (Young): Lily Reinhert, Jane Levy, Holland Roden

Honorable Mention (Older): Alexandra Daddario, Evan Rachel Wood, Holland Roden

Hank McCoy/Beast

Henry_McCoy_(Earth-616)_from_Uncanny_Inhumans_Vol_1_1_001

Hank is a mutant who struggle for the acceptance due to his appearance. He is an extremely smart man. A “renaissance man” who excelled in arts, letters and the sciences. Hank wrestles with demons of loneliness and rejection but he also has a lot of wit and can be a prankster. Hank is SMART but he is very loved by those around him and he loves his people hard as well. I really really love the friendship between Hank and Ororo and I want to showcase that in future films.

In the movies: Kelsey Grammar and Nicholas Hoult

So, in the first set of X-men films, Kelsey Grammar shows up in X-men: The Last Stand,  and honestly, he was perfect. I mean, he had everything that I remember Beast being in X-men: Evolution. Nicholas Hoult had a much longer outing as Hank and I liked him mostly, he could get a little annoying but he was a good friend to Charles, loyal and of course had his little romance with Mystique. I think though that Grammer’s look as the blue Beast was much better than Hoult’s because I hate every single one of Hoult’s look as Beast. Just really bad.

Young Hank: Daniel Radcliffe Adult Hank: Oscar Isaac

sd-aspect-1510676380-oscar-issac-esquire-interview-main

Younger: I thought about a lot of options for a younger Hank McCoy and I went through a few people but I really like Daniel Radcliffe for the role. For one, I think he could embody everything Beast does. He can even maintain his British accent honestly. But I think he could handle all of his emotional ups and downs and plus, the Beast makeup, whether it’s prosthetic or motion capture, I think he could wear it well. He has very expressive eyes and he would really be able to push past the makeup or the motion capture. Plus, Hank can be very funny, a bit of a prankster and Radcliffe is awkwardly funny and very likable and very endearing and he’d fit right into my group for the younger X-men. I think he’d come off as the “older” one, which is fine, it works for him and this group.

Older: I found Oscar Isaac is the best choice for the role because I looooove him first of all and I think he would kill this role. He is such a chameleon and if they do right by him this time compared to that outing as Apocalypse, he would wear the costume instead of it wearing him. He would be able to handle all of the emotions that Hank goes through with how he looks and then if they do the thing with his love. Plus, the really smart demeanor he has, while also freaking out and being animalistic, Oscar Isaac can do all that. He’d be so great at it. Man!

Honorable Mentions (Young): Alden Ehrenreich, Stephen James

Honorable Mentions (Older): Joel Egerton, Jason Clarke

Bobby Drake/Iceman

Red_shirt_bobby

Since I’m showcasing the original group of X-men first, it’s important to show that Bobby was considered the “class clown” often making jokes and clearly the youngest of the group. The others may not appreciate him often but he would become really close to Hank, due to Hank and him connecting through pranks. At first when Bobby is turning to Iceman, he had a snow like exterior, but with the help of Cyclops he learned to increase the temperature and turn to the icy form we all know. It would be nice to see him be the most reckless with his powers, meaning he not knowing how to control it and having to learn from the others because he’s probably struggling a bit more with his powers. They always show Jean struggling which is fine but let’s have someone else who doesn’t quite have a handle on their powers either.

In the movies: Shawn Ashmore is the only version of Bobby we see in the films and he’s fine. I mean his character grows as the movies continue but not by that much, at least not that’s interesting. He’s mostly known as being Rogue’s boyfriend lol. He does some cool things, like when he finally turns fully Iceman in The Last Stand while fighting Pyro but that’s about it lol. Shawn Ashmore was fine in the role, he’s likable and cute and the boy next door and I guess that’s all that’s needed.

Young Bobby: Brandon Flynn Adult Bobby: Matt Bomer

69th Primetime Emmy Awards, Arrivals, Los Angeles, USA - 17 Sep 2017

story_half_width

Younger: Brandon Flynn is from 13 Reasons Why and he was fantastic in that, particularly in the first season and I think he’d be great for this role. I know that in recent times, Bobby has been confirmed part of the LGBT community and Brandon is as well, so it would be nice to have that reflected in Bobby’s character in the films. But outside of that, he has a great smile, so he would be able to enchant anyone, because as soon as he smiled in 13RW I was like O.O. Plus he seems to have a lighthearted energy while also coming off innocent in ways which I think works really well for Bobby. He’d have great chemistry with my pick for Hank as they should become really close friends in the group and Bobby would be able to have someone he could lean on.

Older: MATT BOMER needs to be put into everything because he’s gorgeous, talented and he’s great! That is all.

Honorable Mentions (Young): Dacre Montgomery, Charlie Rowe, Dylan Minnette, Tye Sheridan

Honorable Mentions (Older): Don’t have any, put your cast in the comments!

Warren Worthington III/Angel

Angel

Warren Worthington has a very interesting and sad life to be honest. His feathered wings began to grow from his shoulder blades while at school. At first, he thinks he’s a freak but when he learns he can fly and help people he does, particularly during a fire in his dorm. He gets recruited by Charles later. He does come off as a wealthy playboy and very outspoken, and hates being told what to do, which makes him the cause of tension in the group, particularly with Scott who is the leader, and who is also different from Warren in personality. Apparently, he also is in love with Jean for a long time. Then of course there’s a lot of stuff that happens when he dies, or when his wings get stolen and he gets the metal wings… I mean he has a lot to pull from. But I would like to see a younger Warren with this whole personality of being a playboy and then all the emotional stuff.

In the movies: Ben Foster and Ben Hardy. Honestly, both choices were good choices for the role. I think Ben Foster’s characterization was probably a bit closer to what’s known about Warren’s character but he was so underwritten and underused that it was painful. He was so good. His character was so sympathetic and emotional that his first scene as a kid, was emotional, I might have teared up a little and then his next scene as an adult was also really great. As for Ben Hardy, his Warren was a bit random in his introduction, I still want to know what he was doing in that cage fight. Was he kidnapped like Kurt? I still want to know lol. But he was extremely underused and underwritten and then he dies lol. I mean really?

Young Warren: Austin Butler Adult Warren: Dan Stevens

Younger: Austin Butler is great! Karina brought him up and I was like “Omg yes!” He’s one of the actors I will put in everything! lol but Austin has this ability to be both earnest and lovable but smug and a little douchey at the same time. He has that look and I think he would be able to walk that line for Warren. Plus, he has gorgeous blonde locks, especially if he grows it out long again. Plus, I can see right now, him going back and forth with Graham Phillips as Scott because, I think he’s taller, a little cooler and he would wear that on his sleeve. I also think he could pull off a very emotional, heart on his sleeve personality and Austin is good at that. His eyes are very expressive.

Older: Dan Stevens is about 36 right now and I know he’s on that show Legion, as a mutant, which is fine, but I don’t think those shows count in the MCU but he has that pompous look that Warren has being a rich kid, but he also has an earnestness too. Just like Austin, he can walk that fine line of what Warren needs to be and it could come off either way. I think Dan Stevens also is pretty funny and I can imagine him and Armie Hammer going back and forth too.

Honorable Mentions (Young): I don’t have any, if you do, put them in the comments!

Honorable Mentions (Older): Alex Pettyfer, Freddie Stroma,

So, the people I have chosen for the original X-men team, I think are strong contenders in both the young and older casting.

New Recruits

Ororo Munroe/Storm

3ecbbe87f8064f96bee4863ae3abeefdFirst of all, Ororo is awesome and has an awesome backstory. She comes from a tribe of women, African priestesses, who all have white hair, blue eyes and can potentially wield magic. Her parents were killed when a plane crashed into their home, she was buried under rubble which caused claustrophobia. She was found by a gang of street urchins who took her to theOir master and she was trained in the art of thievery. She was really good at it and one day tried to pick Charles Xavier’s pockets but it didn’t go so well lol. He used his abilities to stop her. There is also a ton of other things that happen which is dope but it’s a lot to share, but she ends up joining the X-men years later when Charles had no choice but contact her when his original group was in danger. He explained to her that she was a mutant, not a Goddess, though she’ll always be a GODDESS lol.

In the movies: Halle Berry and Alexandria Shipp

I didn’t like either one of these casting choices. I don’t find Halle Berry that consistently good of an actress and Storm has always been one of my favorite superheroes/X-men and I will never forgive her, Brian Singer or the writing team in those earlier movies. She was a little better in The Last Stand but that movie was so not good lol I can’t even think of her being good. She didn’t have any of the regality or strength that Ororo has and I’m sure it was a mixture of everyone not knowing how to write her character. Besides, she was always a background character which is also ridiculous. Alexandria Shipp already had us worried because of her portrayal of Aaliyah which also has to do with writing, direction and acting. Also, it sucks that neither of these actresses could handle the African accent, they tried but then Halle Berry stopped having one going forward and Alexandria Shipp was okay but she hardly talked. I mean, either way, she was just there. I also hated the fact they wanted Mystique to be such an inspiration to Storm… for why? Stupid. UGH! UGH! *sighs* let me bring it back.

Young Ororo: Kiki Layne                   Adult Ororo: Sonequa Martin-Green

kiki-layne-beale-street-vanity-fair-oscars-2019-party-red-carpet-fashion-atelier-versace-tom-lorenzo-site-0

5lr3w3y

Younger: I haven’t seen If Beale Street Could Talk yet to comment on Kiki Layne’s acting ability but I think her look is perfect for Ororo. I mean, obviously it would be nice if they found an African actress, but I’m pulling from who I am aware of. She is tall and statuesque, with beautiful brown skin and I think she could at least handle all of the strength that comes from Storm, especially when it comes to using her powers, which IS MORE THAN HARNESSING LIGHTNING. I want to see her fly, I want to see her affect the weather, I want to see her lose her temper where she affects the weather but then learns she needs to leave the atmosphere to do it. I want all of it.

Older: I’ve had Sonequa Martin-Green as Storm for so long lol. I’ve been sitting on her casting for a while, I think I started this piece like earlier this year or last year lol. She’s not that much older than Kiki Layne but she has a more mature look to her, so while Kiki can pull off the younger Ororo, Sonequa could do a Storm whose been hereoing it up for some years. So, I want all that I said for young Storm, just in adult Storm lol.

Honorable Mentions (Young): Deborah Ayorinde

Honorable Mentions (Older): Aja Naomi King, Tika Sumpter

Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler

74725_normal

There is a TON about his backstory but I’m not going to go into it because it’s sooo much. Kurt has always been my favorite X-men so I’ve liked both iterations of him we’ve seen. Now, I think an interesting thing that they haven’t done is show that he has fur. His skin isn’t blue, his body is coated in blue fur which I’ve always thought was cute, especially since Wolverine calls him “fuzzball” and what not lol. Kurt has tragedy in his background. Of course, there’s the whole thing with Mystique being his mother, so I definitely want them to talk about that. It should be a thing instead of this vague nonsense they kept doing. He ended up in the circus and during shows, the ringmaster who did not like him, kept him heavily sedated the entire time. I also believe he was a bit abusive. That helped shape Kurt into the religious man he turned into. Let’s get into all of that.

In the movies: Alan Cummings and Kodi Smit-McPhee who played Kurt in X-men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix and he was literally my favorite casting of the newer movies. Kurt is my favorite X-men and it always sucks that they bring him into the movie and he’s underused! In both movies he was underused! I hate the fact that he just randomly shows up during the cage fight and I want to know HOW THEY CAUGHT HIM because he was just there and his final fight with Angel was so lackluster, which should have been great considering how they set it up. He had a bit more to do in Dark Phoenix but not that much. But HE IS SO GOOD as Kurt, so likable and sweet and I think it would be crazy to not keep him. He’s the only actor I would really keep from those characters. They should just give him so much more to work with. They don’t have to keep the markings on his face, which is such a big part of the Fox version of Nightcrawler but it’s not necessary. As for Alan Cumming, he was fantastic for the first outing of the character. His first scene is literally the best scene in the X-men movies, fight me.

Young Kurt: Kofi Smit-McPhee or Timothee Chalamet Adult Kurt: Matthew Goode

Younger: Kodi Smit-McPhee played Kurt in X-men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix and he was literally my favorite casting of the newer movies. I really liked Kodi Smit-McPhee as Kurt. I thought he did a great job with the character, with his naivety, but his fierceness, his humor and he just embodied for me, what I’ve always loved about the character. Plus, he looked really good in the makeup for the character. I could also see his Kurt growing up into the Kurt we saw in X2. It flowed well enough for me. I liked that he was kind, because Kurt is and always has been but I also like when his survival instincts kicked in and he fought. I thought Kodi did a really good job, probably made me love Kurt even more.

Timothee Chalamet has been my other choice for Kurt if Kodi wasn’t brought back in. I really want to see him do something against type. Something he hasn’t done yet and I think this would be a great role to try out for him. I think all of the emotional stakes that Kurt has to go through he would absolutely KILL it, but I would also like to see him bring his goofy personality that I see in interviews and what not, to Kurt’s goofy personality. He seems to do well with languages, I’m not sure about accents but I’m sure he could do a German accent and I think he’d look good in the blue look for Kurt. I don’t like the idea of Kurt being full CGI because I don’t think it’s necessary, they just need to make sure whatever design they give him, works and isn’t painful. I would love to see him play in an action movie BUT Kurt is also a tragic, sensitive and emotional figure that it’s right up Timothee’s alley. Omg, I can see him doing this right now.

Older: I’ve seen Matthew Goode in a couple of things and he’s a really good actor. I chose him really because his physicality and I think he would look great! But he also has this mysterious look to him that could go either way. I think he could do a good job.

Honorable Mentions (Young): Leave your suggestions in the comments!

Honorable Mentions (Older): Robert Sheehan, Rami Malek, Gaspard Ulliel

Anna Marie/Rogue

4440808-6947826028-rogueShe has powers that will take other people’s life-force and their powers if they’re mutants. That is all.

In the movies: Anna Paquin was a hit or miss most of the time. The emotional moments she did well but Rogue was never the sassy and strong vixen she normally is. Of course, a lot of my knowledge is from the animated show (not the 1992 one) where she was in the “goth” phase and very Southern lol. They can do that or just go off of what she’s normally shown like in the picture above. Anyway, lol Paquin was too whiny as Rogue and we never really got to see her use her powers, she was always scared of them or whined about them. Let’s see her fight Carol and steal her powers so she can fly and be strong and stuff! lol

Young Rogue: Sofia Carson Adult Rogue Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Younger: I almost went with one of the last two of my honorable mentions but then Sofia Carson popped into my mind. I really like her. She has an interesting voice which I think would work for Rogue. I’m not sure how Southern she sounds, or if she can do a Southern accent but I think she would be able to embody all of Rogue’s feistiness, strength, and sensuality.

Older: Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a great choice for Rogue! I think she would be able to handle her Southern accent and keep that same personality and airs that Rogue has. I know she’s slated to play Huntress in this Birds of Preymovie, but let’s just forget about that and get her to play Rogue, if they go with more seasoned heroes.

Honorable Mentions (Young): Elizabeth Gillies, Hailee Steinfeld, Katherine Langford, Billie Lourd

Honorable Mentions (Older): Lyndsy Fonseca, Candice Patton, Alexandria Daddario, Sophia Bush

Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat

250px-kitty_pryde_astonishing_x-men_vol_3_16

I was always more familiar with her from X-Men: Evolution where she was an upbeat, sunny girl who was pretty much popular and liked by everyone because of her open personality. I really want to see a strong friendship between her and Kurt as that was one of my favorite aspects of the animated show and I know it was also part of the comics as well. Plus, if we do get a Wolverine, I definitely want the friendship we get with Kitty and Logan, along with Logan and Kurt AND Kurt, Kitty and Logan.

In the movies: Ellen Page was fine in her outings as Kitty. I was mostly familiar with X-men: Evolution’s Kitty who was super girly and kind of a valley girl so Ellen Page who wasn’t like that was kind of weird for me lol. But she was fine and likable enough, I just didn’t like the whole Bobby/Kitty thing. I don’t know, we didn’t really get the chance to spend much time with her.

Young Kitty: Sophia Lillis or Millie Bobbie Brown Adult Kitty: Emmy Rossum

Younger: So, I have two choices for a young Kitty. I think Millie Bobbie Brown is an obvious choice but I think she’d do well in the role no matter which kind of personality they decide to give her. I do think she should be a bit more upbeat, like a typical teenager instead of all these sullen, brooding teens lol. MBB seems to have that kind of personality in real life. As for Sophia Lillis, I really like her and I think she would be an interesting choice for Kitty. She would make Kitty a bit more relatable and sassier and I like that about her, besides she’s a little older than MBB. Either choice I think would work out just fine. Besides, I think both of them would be able to have a great rapport with either of my choices for Kurt, as they are older than both SL and MBB, it would hopefully come off more sibling like. Otherwise, I’d age up Kitty’s actress with casting one of my honorable mentions.

Older: Emmy Rossum is an amazing actress and as soon as I saw her photo when I was looking at brunette actresses, I was like BAM that’s Kitty. I think she would maintain that bright personality that Kitty has but also be a bit “harder” because I would think she’s experienced and been through a lot. Plus, I think she would fit into my choices of the older X-men really well and have good besties chemistry with Matthew Goode as Kurt.

Remy LeBeau/Gambit

Gambit_cards

He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Remy’s bio-kinetic charging abilities manifested early in his teens, although he kept his powers secret from his family and friends, practicing his powers away from prying eyes. Remy discovered his signature attack when he picked up a playing card that Etienne had dropped, charged it, and threw it in the Pig’s face, taking out his eye. He’s had a lot of adventures, he’s really interesting lol and we need to see more of him, I definitely would like to, especially see his relationship with Rogue. My picks for the older version of Gambit and Rogue would be soooo great together! Plus, he just looks really cool. Let this Channing Tatum nonsense GO!

In the movies: Taylor Kitsch was honestly fine in his role; it was a bad movie and bad writing. I thought he did well and I wouldn’t mind having him back.

Adult Remy: Garrett Hedlund

large

I thought about doing the young/older for Remy but I couldn’t think of anyone I liked as a young Remy, so I’m just casting an adult one. The younger one might have to be an unknown. If they go with the younger X-men he shouldn’t really show up that soon anyway. But I think Garrett Hedlund would be perfect, he’s tall, handsome, likable and he normally has the hair that Remy sports and he has this charm to him that I think would snare anyone. Now, I don’t particularly know how good his accent would be but I’m sure he’d be fine. I’ve liked him in every role I’ve seen him play for the most part, so Garrett for the win!

Honorable Mentions (Older): Gaspard Ulliel, Dave Franco, Ian Somerhalder, Kevin Zegers, Taylor Kitsch, Jared Padalecki, Daveed Diggs, Jared Leto

Supporting X-men

Caleb McLaughlin as Evan Daniels/Spyke

People have brought him up for Miles Morales and I disagree on that. So, if they bring in Spyke mostly from X-men: Evolution, Caleb should play him. He doesn’t have to quite have this look but still lol.

Lana Condor as Jubilation Lee/ Jubilee

She was so wasted… so bring her back.

Returning Players

These are the characters we’ve seen many times. I didn’t want to quite include them in the detailed bits above but I’ll have everyone here except for Wolverine. I don’t have anyone I really want to see play that role right now.

Ralph Fiennes as Charles Xavier/Professor X

Obviously James McAvoy who I adore was great as was Patrick Stewart. They’ll both always be who I might think of first when I think of Charles and honestly, I wouldn’t mind having McAvoy back but I am aware that he said he would only do it in the MCU if they write good and interesting material. I’m down for it lol but I’m sure they probably won’t ask him back. I would love it if he’d come into the MCU as a different person though. BE ANOTHER HERO JAMES! *ahem*

I actually couldn’t think of anyone else once I saw a picture of Ralph Fiennes. I think he’d be a great mentor to either of my groups of X-men. He has a stern face but he also knows how to soften it when necessary. Plus, I can see him going toe to toe with Jason Isaacs in a battle of wits.

Jason Isaacs as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto

He’d be great and you know it! Both McKellen and Fassy were great as Erik but neither one of them intimidated me. I want a Magneto who would intimidate me even when he’s not on screen. I never quite felt the threat from the other two. They were great but I think Jason Isaacs would really be able to sink his hooks (hehehe). I mean this dude intimidated me as Captain Hook lol. I think he’d look great in the classic Magneto suit and go toe to toe with my Charles.

Charlize Theron as Raven Darkholme/Mystique

I don’t think they should do the scales thing again. It was cool when you first see it with Rebecca Romjin, but they should stick to her comic look. Blue skin, red flowy hair, yellow eyes and then of course clothes lol. She often wears that white outfit; she can wear that as her default but she can literally change clothes at the drop of a hat. Just no scales.

Honorable Mentions: Lena Heady, Milla Jovovich, Kate Beckinsale

So, these are my choices for how the MCU should cast their X-men. I didn’t of course go into sooo much detail about other characters, nor did I cast everyone, or even people we meet along the way, like Colossus and Banshee etc. I think this first group I’ve chosen would be a good group to start out with because then we get to see people get development we haven’t seen like Scott, Warren, and Bobby. Hank and Jean has gotten it in the past, but I’m hoping for a different kind of development lol. I’d also hope that the additional characters like Ororo, Kurt, Rogue and Kitty would be put to much better use.

But that’s it! This took a long time to put together and I want to thank Karina for helping me when I was stuck!

Thanks for reading and please let me know your thoughts on my Fan Casting for the MCU’s X-men and leave your casting choices in the comments!

Thanks for reading.

Fan Casting: MCU Fantastic Four

Image result for marvel's fantastic 4

So, I read that at Comic Con, Marvel Studios (MCU) is going to introduce the Fantastic Four in their universe. I think that’s awesome because maybe this time, the first family of  Marvel will get the chance to have a successful film outing.

I don’t know everything about these characters. I only know what I know from the movies, the one particular animated show and what I’ve researched. I like them all and I think it’s important for each character to have their moment to shine. I’ve never seen the original film but the 2004 films with Chris Evans and Jessica Alba were fun and I quite enjoyed the 2015 reboot. I know a lot of people hate that one but I like it. Read my review for it here. I’m not going to go into so much description about each person but get right into the casting. I know everyone wants John Krasinski and Emily Blunt to play Reed and Sue and that’s cool but I don’t think I really want them to play these roles. Same with Zac Efron, I wouldn’t be mad but I don’t really dig it.

Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic

So, we’ve had Miles Teller and Ioan Grufffudd play Reed. They were both origin stories which is fine. I liked both actors in their roles but they were playing Reed at different places in their lives but were kind of similar. I mean, they’re both unassuming and a bit awkward. Honestly, thinking about them both now, while I don’t mind them, Reed was kind of boring and didn’t have a lot of development lol. Let’s not do that anymore. He shouldn’t be boring.

Reed is an intellectual who would rather to examine foes and negotiate instead of fighting. He can get caught up in the scientific implications of a problem that he forgets the problem. Reed is likable, pleasant and extremely passionate about his family and those he cares about. But he can also develop intense depression and be very self-deprecating. He is very much a humanitarian who will do what he can to prevent the suffering an intellectual being.

Top Choice: Patrick Wilson

Fantastic_Four_Vol_6_1_Mr._Fantastic_Variant_Textless

"Space Station 76" Premiere - 2014 SXSW Music, Film + Interactive Festival

I think Patrick Wilson would be great as Reed! First, he’s such a good actor and so dynamic, I’ve used this word a lot lately lol. Reed is the leader of his group and is the smartest man in the Marvel universe. He seems like someone would actually say that his intelligence is more important that his abilities. I also think because stretching powers can come off so silly, that Wilson would be able to find the balance. Patrick Wilson is charming and likable when his character is meant to be likable (because he can also be a horrible person too lol) and Reed’s obsessive nature could be explored as well. Not to mention, any moment where he feels like he’s failed and develops deep depression, I think he would be great at all of this. Plus, I think he would have really nice chemistry with either of my choices for Sue Storm.

Honorable Mentions: I don’t have any right now. Leave your choices for Reed in the comments!

Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman

So, in the past we’ve had Jessica Alba as Sue, which even then I thought was weird. I mean, she wasn’t bad but miscast. I mean, if you have to put so much makeup on her to make her skin lighter, that’s a problem, especially in the second one. Sheesh. Kate Mara also had great potential as did the movie but we know how that went.

So, I have two picks for Sue but they’re going to be for different reasons. I’ll try to explain lol.

Top Choice: Gugu Mbatha-Raw

250px-invisible_woman

2931

So, before you freak out and give me outrage, Gugu Mbatha-Raw is such a good actress. I need her to get a role that would propel her further into the spotlight and Marvel has done that for a lot of their actors. Sure, some might have smaller roles than others, but even the smaller roles, still manage to get a lot more movies, even if they’re “indies”. I recently saw Fast Color and she was so good in that. So, Gugu is 37 but she can register a bit younger than that depending on what kind of point in their lives they want to portray the FF. Either way, I think she would be a great choice. She’s in a healthy middle when it comes to not being that much younger than Wilson as Reed (there’s a 10-year difference but he also can register younger) and she would nail any and all emotional moments for Sue. She’d be strong because I think Sue is a strong character but her powers are also really strong, interesting and should be portrayed as such. No more of that “I can’t hold this for much longer!” when she literally just put up the barrier or whatever lol. I also think she’d be a great older sister for BOTH of my younger Johnny Storm picks AND she’d be great standing BESIDE Patrick Wilson’s Reed. She’s so dynamic on screen that thinking about it right now just makes me want her to be cast RIGHT NOW. Plus, definitely just let her keep her curls.

Kristen Bell

Kristen_Bell

I definitely want Gugu Mbatha-Raw more but I wanted to also choose an older Johnny and I think with my older Johnny choice; Kristen Bell works better for that. Plus, I love her and I think she hasn’t really had the chance to really have a role that would get her a lot of attention. Sure, she was Anna in Frozenbut that was a voice over so it’s not really the same effect. I think having her play Sue will allow her to not only be in a Marvel film which would already make her even more of a household name, but she gets to have powers! I can totally see her being motherly but still a sister, because I didn’t like when she was scolding Johnny in the 2004 versions, like girl calm down lol. I can even see her being a bit awkward but cool around Reed, I think Kristen could play it either way. Not to mention, I think she could be pretty badass if you let her and she’ll have great chemistry with Patrick Wilson.

Honorable Mentions: Aja Naomi King, Rosamund Pike, Alice Eve, Allison Brie (a friend suggested her and I like it lol), Rachel McAdams (let’s forget about her being in Dr. Strange)

Johnny Storm/The Human Torch

Both Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan were fine in this role as well. Evans clearly had fun in the role because Johnny being a ladies man, a bit roguish and a rebel works for him, which is funny because being the everyman, and strait-laced like Steve, also works for him. MBJ was the best in his movie, I don’t care what anyone says, but his Johnny was very underwritten and underused. Man, I want to rewrite that movie. You can read How I Would Fix: Fantastic Four.

Top Choice: Jacob Latimore (mostly) OR Ross Lynch

Okay, so listen up. Johnny can go either way in terms how old he is. When I was first casting this, I got comfortable with Kristen Bell as Sue that when I found my “older” choice for Johnny, I put away the idea of him being a bit younger because I thought I was done. BUT I kept thinking about Gugu and then I thought, well I thought MBJ was really good as Johnny in Fant4stic and it was a mistake that they didn’t make Sue black as well without doing much with it. I mean, I get what they were trying to do but it was a disservice.

So I thought of Jacob Latimore and I really want him to be a superhero lol because he was so good in Sleight. So, I said “well, if I made the Storms black, then I’d want Gugu and Jacob, they’re 13 years apart which is fine and it’d be great!” Jacob would have great chemistry with Gugu, no matter which way he’s played because she could either try to be all motherly (which is kind of what Alba did just nagging) or be like his cool and smart big sister who knows how to put him in his place if need be, without the nagging and that’d work better with Latimore’s Johnny. In terms of his personality, he’s usually the first one to jump into a situation, trying to fix things that got messed up (probably by him lol). He’s adventurous, spirited, impulsive and all of these other “flashy” personality types, I think Jacob Latimore would have fun in this role. I haven’t quite seen him play a role with this kind of personality but he seems like a likable person and I’ve always found Johnny likable no matter his iteration. Also, whenever there’s a more emotional moment for him, he could pull that off too. Not to mention, I’d think he’d be so smooth and cool and look awesome as The Human Torch. Let’s make it happen!

As for Ross Lynch, my friend Karina suggested him if Gugu played Sue and he could be her half-brother. I liked this idea and so I’m putting it here. Plus, she brought up the idea of Johnny being closer in age to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker since there’s no one his age in the MCU he can relate to, who is also a superhero. Plus, plus, I really like Ross Lynch and while he is on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as Harvey Kinkle, I would like to see him put forth in a way that the MCU can do. He’s also a very good actor, because I was blown away at him in My Friend Dahmer but he can also play the goofy, impulsive, maybe a little hotheaded guy because his Austin character was a bit like that. Even his Brady character had some of those tendencies. I think Ross Lynch would do great and also look great with the Human Torch look.

Karina mentioning that she liked the idea of Johnny being younger and then suggesting Ross Lynch, validated my choice in Jacob Latimore since Holland, Latimore and Lynch are all 23 and have a younger look about them. This doesn’t mean that they have to be the same age since as of Far From Home, Peter is 16. Johnny could be older. Plus, considering the whole thing with the Snap, perhaps Johnny didn’t get snapped and got the chance to grow up a bit? Who knows, but I wouldn’t make him that much older than Peter either way. It’s important for Peter to find someone he could be friends with in his superhero world, especially someone like Johnny who might just understand what Peter is going through thanks to the end credits (I won’t spoil). Besides, by time they bring Johnny into the MCU for real, Peter could have graduated high school lol.

Jeremy Sumpter

f9984ffb93bd4b6cfe96186efce71bcf

This version of Johnny Storm is for Kristen Bell’s Sue Storm. Jeremy Sumpter hasn’t been that known for years. I mostly remember him from Peter Pan, which is amazing by the way, but I think he would be so good in this role! Not only does he look like he could be Kristen Bell’s young brother, but he has a youthful energy and look to him and he’s very handsome. He could be a ladies man if they go that route for Johnny. If not, that’s cool, but he could also do that hothead personality as well. Also, this could really propel him back into the spotlight because he’s so likable and I think he could really do it.

Honorable Mention: Glen Powell, Zac Efron, Dacre Montgomery, Taron Egerton, Nick Robinson, Dave Franco, Algee Smith (For Raw’s Johnny)

Ben Grimm/The Thing

So, Ben always seems to get a little less attention than the others, I mean Jamie Bell was wasted and while I enjoyed 2015’s Fant4stic, he was very underwritten and underused. I mean, his entire background and usefulness was just ugh. His design in the 2015 movie was fine, I know everyone clowned him because he wasn’t wearing pants but whatever lol, he’s a rock mass. Michael Chiklis who played in the 2004 version, was fine as Ben as well, he annoyed me a lot of the time though, he whined too much. He was better in the sequel.

Ben had a tough life which shaped into a scrappy street kid. There’s a million ways to play his background, to show how it shaped him as an adult and so on. You could even throw in about his brother dying in a gang fight and how easily Ben idolizes people. I definitely think it’s important that it’s shown that Ben and Reed have been friends since college or at least since they were young men. Ben was always supportive of Reed even though they are vastly different. Ben does serve in the Marine Corps as a Test Pilot or at least skilled enough to fly a craft. Which makes sense for why Reed would include him on their expedition SO HE CAN FLY THE CRAFT. He’s also Jewish and I think it’d be nice to maintain that.

Top Choice: Chris Sullivan

Fantastic_Four_Vol_6_1_The_Thing_Variant_Textless

chris6

Ben is hard to cast because he has to be able to stand out as a human but then stand out when he’s The Thing. This actor would have to pull double duty. I always have a little hard time casting for Ben because I want someone who not only looks like they could be friends with Reed, especially since they’re so different, but he also has to have nice interactions with Johnny and Sue on different levels. Karina suggested Chris Sullivan who was Benny on Stranger Things and is also on This Is Us, which I don’t watch but his short-lived moment on Stranger Things was so impactful! Justice for Benny!! But I think he fits my group so well, both of my groups. He looks like he would be great friends with Patrick Wilson as Reed, be the strong silent type, who keeps Reed from falling too obsessively into things. I can see him forming a nice relationship with Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Sue (same with Bell) and then having a playful but caring brotherly relationship with Johnny (all three of them lol). I think he works so well that while I have Honorable Mentions, and I kept thinking of other actors, he was the only one who kept coming to the forefront.

Honorable Mention: David Harbour, John Cena (I’m so serious lol), Terry Crews (I keep seeing it and I’m down for it lol).

Victor Von Doom/Dr. Doom

So, we had Julian McMahon and Toby Kebbell as Victor and honestly, they both were good casting choices but the interpretations for them were not that great and they of course were very different. So different. McMahon’s Victor was a businessman, smooth, a bit cruel and always calculative but I never thought he was nearly as smart as Reed where he can challenge him. I always see him be considered as the smartest villain in Marvel comics and I didn’t get that. I mean, I don’t know, he’s very campy… but I guess that movie is campy lol. As for Kebbell, his characterization was okay but then it went off the rails in the latter half of the film. Whew lol.

So, they always portray Victor with getting powers from the cosmic cloud and all that or that he goes with the group on their expedition and somehow gets powers and none of that is true. I think it would be beneficial to go back to the idea that Reed, Ben and Victor all went to school together and there was an immediate enemy relationship. Follow the comics a bit more. The entire scarring ordeal, building his armor and all that. His powers come from the armor. I mean, he’s smart, so let’s go that angle.

Top Choice: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

250px-Doctor_Doom_(2018)

nikolaj-coster-waldau-portrait-copy

Yess Jamie Lannister. It was down to him and Viggo Mortensen but I ended up choosing Nikolaj because he’s closer in age. But I think he’d do sooo well in this role! Firstly, I don’t imagine seeing them in college first, at least I don’t think we’d have too, but I can imagine him having that grudge against Patrick Wilson’s Reed. I don’t think there was really a thing with him and Sue and we don’t really need that again. But I can imagine him using that for him, using his statue, his good looks or whatever, for his advantage. Nikolaj really does vulnerability well so with his scarred face, or even if they don’t do that, he would be able to handle that. He would also kill any angry outbursts and he has a lot of experience with action thanks to Game of Thrones so he would kill that. I think that’s important to maintain. He would kill it. I want to see him play Victor.

Honorable Mentions: Brian Cranston, Luke Evans, Viggo Mortensen, Armie Hammer.

I’m not going to get into other castings, like their kids or other villains because that’s a lot of work. Besides, these are the people that we’re used to seeing and they’re the ones who’d take center stage. I mean I know Victor is a villain but he definitely should be around quite a bit. I mean, like how Loki always was but make sure he’s a presence as both Victor Von Doom but also Dr. Doom.

I didn’t mind the younger versions of the characters they wanted to try in the 2015 version. I think it had a lot of potential but it just fell apart in second half of the film. If they went that version again, that’s cool, and that definitely makes room for both Ross Lynch and Jacob Latimore as a younger Johnny.

In the end, Patrick Wilson (Reed), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Sue), Chris Sullivan (Ben) and Jacob Latimore (Johnny), with Ross Lynch as an alternate lol, would be a great Fantastic Four with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau rounding us out as Victor. Man, y’all this would be good.

The Story

I don’t want to see them as kids, I don’t really want to see Ben and Reed in college and since my Johnny is younger, I don’t want to see teenage Sue and child Johnny. The origin should start when they get ready to go on this expedition. It’s of course unauthorized and Reed is smart and wants to do his own thing anyway.

Maybe we really do explore more of the multiverse and the Fantastic Four comes from another world? Perhaps it’s not even an origin story, maybe they treat it like Spider-Man and they already have their powers. Maybe they’re already established on their Earth as heroes? Or maybe they’ve been hiding ever since they got their powers, which would answer why we haven’t heard anything about them in the MCU, other than legal reasons lol.

I think there are many ways they could go with Marvel’s first family. I just hope that if we do get another origin, which we don’t really need, that it’s approached in a different way, something we haven’t seen before. If it’s not an origin, that’s awesome, but let’s make sure we handle the story and characters with care.

This is my Fan Casting for the MCU’s Fantastic Four. It would allow for a bit of diversity with the Storms and just to see actors we haven’t seen in the MCU.

What are your thoughts on my fan cast for the MCU’s Fantastic Four? Who are your picks for these characters and why?

Let me know in the comments below!

Fan Casting: Atlantis: The Lost Empire

6b004a0299284218f466c51bbcbf73ea

The Cast

The characters in the film were a ragtag group of people who managed to be interesting separately and apart. That’s always important for everyone to be interesting. The voice acting was so good that whenever I think of these characters, or see their photos, I immediately hear Cree Summer, Michael J. Fox and etc. Because this film is so underrated, the actors who bring these characters to life in live action really have the chance to build upon what we’ve seen already.

So, I’m going to give my top choices for the characters with a few honorable mentions if I have them for that role.

Milo Thatch

Image result for milo thatch

So, Milo is apparently 32!! I always thought he was in his 20s. But sure he’s 32 in the animated film. I have a couple of choices for his live action role, and with my top choice it could make him a bit younger. Just a tad. But Milo is Mild-mannered, smart, friendly, funny, socially awkward, informative, knowledgeable, determined, eager, sympathetic, idealistic, heroic among many things. He has a lot of things he’s really good at. He’s a linguist, cartographer and of course becomes the King of Atlantis at the end of the film. Milo is a likable character, he’s earnest and you root for him even though he’s really naive in the beginning. He manages to pull it together even though he was a bit of an outsider with the others. So, this obviously would need to be maintained.

I’ve seen Andrew Garfield mentioned a lot and yes, he would be great but I think he just looks too old. I wouldn’t be upset if he was cast but he looks too old. I’ve also seen Tom Holland mentioned which I wouldn’t mind him either because I love Tom Holland and he would be great but I think Milo should be played by someone we’re not too familiar with yet. So, either an unknown or lesser known.

Top Choice: Cole Sprouse

jsnv88f

m8a8923

Cole Sprouse is about 27 and if they start this movie in the next two years, he’d be around the age I thought Milo was. He’s currently on Riverdaleand was in Five Feet Apart, and I enjoy him immensely on Riverdale, he is my favorite on the show lol. His character is very different from what Milo would be. I mean, Jughead is smart and what not, but he’s not that awkward (no matter how much they tried to make it seem like he is) or even mild-mannered the way Milo is. Cole Sprouse is likable and he’s goofy when he’s just being himself and I think he could use something that would propel him so he’s not just stuck doing meh teen romances or whatever is going on Riverdale lol. Plus, he’s already dressed up as Milo for Halloween and I dug it and I need it now.

Honorable Mentions:

Grant Gustin currently plays Barry Allen/The Flash on the CW and I like him. I think he was at his best in Season 1 and I like when he’s being goofy. I think Grant really shines when Barry is being goofy and awkward. Milo is like that and I think Grant could really play that and he’s not too old nor does he look too old… yet lol. Dylan Sprouse is also a fine choice. I haven’t seen him act recently but I’m sure he would be up for doing it.

Princess Kida

kida_atlantis_0

Kid is very intelligent, caring, eager, energetic, persuasive, kind, brave, resourceful, aggressive, vigilant, proud. I love her appearance, because it’s so different from what we’ve seen. I think it’s really important that she comes off as a strong person and I’ve been thinking of people who could portray that. I have always loved Kida, she’s a Princess who isn’t considered a Disney Princess, but she gets a lot of cool things to do. She’s a warrior, she gets to speak another language and her look is so different from what we’ve seen before so I can imagine the costume designer and the hair/makeup people would love to sink their teeth into her design. Besides, I think with her hair you could do a lot of different things. It could still be white but her hair could be big and curly, it could be locs, I mean black people’s hair is very versatile.

Top Choice: Keke Palmer

gettyimages-512070076_master

I like Keke Palmer a lot for Kida. I haven’t seen her recently and I’ve always liked her. Keke could play all of her vulnerable moments and her strong/badass moments. Plus, she has this energy about her that is regal which is what Kida is even if she’s a bit wild and free. I also think she’d look great in Kida’s look.

Honorable Mentions:

Gugu Mbatha-Rawwould be PERFECT but she’s too old, especially next to Cole Sprouse who is my top choice for Milo. Zoe Kravitz is also someone I really like for Kida, and she’s about the same age as Cole but she can skew a little older sometimes. Chloe Bailey was mentioned by a friend and I’d dig it lol. Leticia Wright she would be an interesting choice, but I’d be into it.

Commander Rourke

fb1edac4c602e7b0d4d9aa3f83242eff

Commander Rourke is many negative things and the main antagonist in the film. He’s greedy, boastful among other things. Before the movie, he doesn’t start out as a villain, I mean, he has his plans and what not, and clearly, it’s villainous plans because he’s trying to take something from a group of people. You’re not meant to like him lol. So, he needs to be someone who is charming, maybe a little bit handsome, who clearly is a leader and someone who can be ruthless.

Top Choice: Woody Harrelson

f6e3d832330642c6b9828da378b2a729_7e9007f462214af490bb432418b8b602_header

I was thinking a little hard on this one. I didn’t want to pick an actor who would clearly play this role like Stephan Lang whose already played a character like this in Avatar. Woody Harrelson can play villains and while he may not exactly have the statue you would think a guy like Rourke would have, I think he could make himself have it and he would be so good in this role. He wouldn’t automatically come off as a villain, he’d be charming, maybe a little bit funny and then we could see some greed and villainous intentions start to poke through

Honorable Mentions:Stephan Lang, Viggo Mortensen.

Lieutenant Helga Katrina Sinclair

f7558bd0a7c894e1672ac7601349a16c

Rourke’s German second-in-command and lieutenant. She’s very tough, cunning, short-tempered, rebellious, bold, selfish, determined, violent, aggressive, rude, sarcastic, argumentative, hot-tempered, passionate, reserved, cold, cruel, ruthless, disrespectful, obnoxious, vengeful. I got all of that from the wiki lol. She’s quite an interesting character and I think they could give her a little more to work with in a live action film.

Top Choice: Diane Kruger OR Alice Eve

28-diane-kruger-feature.w512.h600.2x

"Sex And The City 2" New York Premiere - Arrivals

So, Diane Kruger because she’s German (lol) and I haven’t seen her in a role like this. I haven’t seen a ton of her films but I would like to see her take it on. Besides, I know she’s done some action things in some films so it’s not like she would be totally out of her element.

Alice Eve because she has this innocent look to her but she can also look very sinister, depending on her expression. That would be good for Helga, not to mention, Helga is very sexy but strong and imposing when she’s trying to be. I think Alice Eve could do that.

Honorable Mentions: Charlize Theron (I feel like she’s the obvious choice but I wanted to try someone else).

Vincenzo “Vinny” Santorini

Vinny

So, I don’t think it’s ever said if Vinny is Italian but I think it’s pretty implied. He’s pretty funny but not because he does anything that’s funny but because of how he talks and his delivery in his dialogue. He has some of the best dialogue in the film. He used to run a flower shop but after an explosion (that he survived) he became a demolition expert. He’s a likable guy even though he’s very deadpan and snarky with great one-liners.

Top Choice: Bobby Cannavale

cannavale-852x1024

Again, another choice I was thinking about and of course Sacha Baron Cohen is always everyone’s choice and he’ll be fine (maybe a little annoying as he can be)but I think Bobby Cannavale would be a surprise and fun in the role. He can come off as a villain depending on his energy which Vinny surprisingly does later but he also can be very likable and funny.

Honorable Mentions: Justin Baldoni, Sacha Baron Cohen(Obvious choice)

Dr. Joshua Strongbear Sweet

Image result for dr. joshua sweet

He is a medic who is of African American and Native American descent. He is a medical officer and the first one to take Milo in and is very open about who he is and what he likes to do and he’s very kind and almost a mentor in ways to Milo. I mean he does warn Milo about their teammates quirks lol. He of course is on the team with the others in betraying Milo and finding the crystal but when the King gets hurt, he turns on Rourke because he is not for violence. Also, Phil Morris voices this character and that man is one of the best voice actors!

Top Choice: Isaiah Mustafa

mv5bndkxowvhntgtntmwos00odjmlweyztatzjayngvmm2qxmzi0xkeyxkfqcgdeqxvymti0mjk1mjk40._v1_

As soon as I posted up the cartoon photo from the film of Dr. Sweet, Isaiah Mustafa immediately came to mind. He’d be perfect. Phil Morris was so good with his rapid-fire delivery that I think Mustafa could emulate that while also making him his own. The only big difference is that he’s not super buff but he’s tall and imposing, especially when he’s just standing there with the right look. I like him a lot and I think he would have both that charm that Dr. Sweet has especially since he’s always at 100 no matter on his mood.

Honorable Mention: Terry Crews, Henry Simmons

Audrey Rocio Ramirez

Image result for audrey ramirez

Audrey is an 18-year-old Puerto Rican mechanic. She is the chief mechanic of the journey and she does whatever she can to keep the Ulysses running after it’s Leviathan. She doesn’t particularly like Milo that much, especially when he fixes one of the machines but she does warm up to him later. She does side with Rourke in the beginning but she feels guilty and is one of the first of the group to side with Milo. Audrey is feisty and I know she is very liked by many fans because of her personality and really nice animation.

Top Choice: Cierra Ramirez

51805fc2be865b874f6b377cdb7b89bf

I haven’t really watched her in her respective shows and she’s not Puerto Rican but she does have the look that Audrey has. Otherwise, they can find someone who is a new actress for this role.

Honorable Mention: Melonie Diaz (she’s too old but she can register a little younger sometimes)

Other Supporting Characters

Wilhelmina Bertha Packard

Top Choice: Helen Mirren

She’s an elderly, sarcastic, chain-smoking radio operator. She’s very cynical and does her own thing. Helen Mirren would be perfect for this role and this is the only time I would obviously cast someone because Helen Mirren would be great. We can make this character British lol, I love when she’s all sassy.

Gaetan “Mole” Molière

Top Choice: No one right now… maybe Mark Hamill??

default_molemoli_re

Mark_Hamill_2017

Mole is a French geologist who acts like a mole. He’s a little weirdo, he burrows into the dirt and is very flirty though he is quite dirty. Everyone seems not to take him seriously when it has nothing to do with the expedition or his field of study. He’s funny, so I think it’s important that whoever plays him, maintains that energy that he has without making him come off as a pervy person. I mean, he’s a perv lol but there’s a line. That sounds weird but you know what I mean. Maybe Mark Hamill? He came to mind afterwards lol. He does a great job in The Flashwith his villain character. Otherwise, perhaps find a little French man? lol

Honorable Mentions: I would have said Timothy Spall as my top choice because I mean obviously lol, but I’m not sure what’s going on with him health wise (google him), so I’ll just put him here.

Preston B. Whitmore

Whitmore

Preston B. Whitmore is an eccentric millionaire who funds the expedition to Atlantis. He’s a bit mysterious because no one knows much about him but he wants to fund the expedition because he believes in it and he believes in Milo. He’s there in the beginning and more towards the end. If I remember, he’s into Yoga and all that so whoever plays him needs to be able to maintain his mysteriousness. I think with him being a bit odd, the actor should really make sure he’s charming enough to get Milo on board, but also, you’re not sure where he stands.

I don’t have a top choice right now but I have some options here: Kelsey Grammar, Jeff Goldblum, Donald Sutherland, Dick Van Dyke (lol), Ben Kingsley, Patrick Stewart

Jebidiah Allardyce “Cookie” Farnsworth

Cookie

He’s a very minor character but he’s likable and memorable. He is a Western-style chuckwagon chef. He’s quick talking and humorous. He makes some of the weirdest concoctions.

Top Choice: William H. Macy

King Kashekim Nedakh

Atlantis_06

Kashekim Nedakh is the king and ruler of Atlantis at the height of its power. He makes some bad choices that causes Atlantis’ downfall and then results in him losing his wife to the Crystal and his eyesight because he looks directly at the crystal. He’s protective of his daughter, very strict and is against outsiders in his kingdom. Understandable. His role is very small, but he comes off very wise but kind of harsh in ways and then his last scene is supposed to be very apologetic and you understand him. I have a few actors who would be great in this role but if we are shown flashbacks of when the city was ruined, then this actor would need to be able to move quickly enough to save his daughter from seeing the crystal.

Top Choice: I actually really like the idea of Sidney Poitier playing this role because he’s a legend and I think he has that regality to him that this character would require. They can de-age him and then have a stand-in do the movement that’s needed for the flashbacks.

Honorable Mention: Morgan Freeman, Giancarlo Esposito, Mahershala Ali (for a younger dad but since their lives are much longer than regular humans and because I love him lol).

Soooooo, this one took me a while because there are sooo many people in this movie lol and I wanted to make sure I had some good choices in there. This is my list of who I think would really do a great job for this film. It would be great if they LISTENED TO ME but that’s fine.

What are your thoughts on this fan casting? Let me know your thoughts and who you would like to see bring these roles to life?

Thanks for reading!

FanCasting: Treasure Planet (2002)

treasure_planet_main_image

Summary: A Disney animated version of “Treasure Island”. The only difference is that the film is set in outer space with alien worlds and other galactic wonders.

I distinctly remember when this movie came out in 2002. I remember the trailers and I remember the McDonald’s commercials for it. However, it was almost like it came and went. I’ve seen it many times and cut to some years later, I own it now and this movie is beautiful and amazing.

I have done a lot of research and watched videos on this movie. It took 10 years to make, which was much longer than the other movies at the time. It was also stuck in production hell for a long time. It seems like the men who ran Disney at the time, were wholly against this movie and did nothing to help it become a thing.

This film was pitched to Disney by John Musker and Ron Clements several times in their Disney career. During production of The Black Cauldron (1985), they asked but got assigned to direct The Great Mouse Detective (1986). They asked again but got assigned to do The Little Mermaid (1989) and THEN Aladdin (1992). They asked again after Aladdin, but the studio wanted them to do Hercules(1997) and they only agreed to work on that film if they could do Treasure Planet right after. Finally got smart. But they had some good movies in their career before they got to do their passion project. I don’t particularly care for Herculeslike that but the other ones in their repertoire are some of my favorites (TLM and Aladdin particularly)

Animated Voice Cast

This movie has a great voice cast.

  • Joseph Gordon Levitt as Jim Hawkins. This is JGL’s debut as a voice actor and he does a really good job in the role. He is youthful, he has a unique voice at this point in his life and whenever Jim goes through his anger spouts or even the emotional stuff, he handles it well. I’ve always wanted JGL to be the live action version of Jim but he’s too old now, but I’ve found someone who can bounce his amazing voice work.
  • David Hyde Pierce as Dr. Delbert Doppler. I’ve never really seen him in anything, other than Frasier, and didn’t watch it like that. It was just on and I’d kind of watch it lol. But he has a great kind of awkward and annoying combination of a voice. Delbert was endearing but he was also that Doctor character who thought they knew everything but never really experienced it themselves.
  • Emma Thompson as Captain Amelia. She is one of my favorite characters in the movie lol, she’s great and Emma Thompson is great at voicing her.
  • Martin Short as B.E.N. He’s a robot and Martin Short is a little annoying in the role but I guess that’s the point of him lol. Very distinct voice as well.
  • Brian Murray as John Silver. He is a cyborg and the pseudo-villain of the film. He has a great voice and he changes it up depending on his mood, I like that.

Live Action Cast

Jim Hawkins

Jim Hawkins is said to be 15 in the film, in a deleted scene. He can stay 15 especially with a few of my choices or we could age him up a little bit, maybe 17 so he’s not quite at 18 just yet. But he’s a bad boy who yearns for adventure. He just can’t seem to get his life together but he manages to figure out the puzzle he gets from Billy Bones and embarks on a quest to help his mom. He feels like it’s his fault. Jim goes through a lot in this film. He’s angry and acting out because his father left when he was a kid and he’s resentful for that. I think a role like this, is one we’ve seen many times and there’s nothing wrong with seeing it again in a different package. We see Jim grow throughout the film and I think with great writing coupled with his great acting, it would be awesome.

Top Choice: Timothee Chalamet

treasureplanet08-740x44424th Annual Critics' Choice Awards - Arrivals, Santa Monica, USA - 13 Jan 2019

I think Chalamet would be great at this role. Most of his roles are dramas and he’s so good at that but I would like to see him do something that’s a bit more fun and adventurous. That may not be his thing but I’d think he’d be great at that. With all the emotional stuff Jim experiences, especially the betrayal he feels when Silver does his thing, I think Timothee could really handle all of this. Plus, he still looks young, he’s 23 but he has a young face. I don’t know if that hairstyle would quite work on a real person and it doesn’t look stupid but I like Chalamet’s hair in the picture on the right, so I think that would work out fine, or have him grow it out a tad bit longer and definitely let him keep his curls because while I love Mena Massoud’s hair in Aladdin, I wish he got to keep his curls too.

Honorable Mentions: Booboo Stewart, Levi Miller, Ross Lynch, Nick Robinson. These three actors I feel like would also do a really good job at this role. I put them in the order of who I think would be the best for the role.

Captain Long John Silver

He’s never quite called “Long John” but that’s his name from the novel soo but anyway, Silver is ambitious, greedy, cunning and spent most of his life searching for Captain Flint’s treasure. Whenever he’s working with his crew in secret, he’s clearly their menacing Captain. However, you come to like and care about him because of his interactions with Jim. He doesn’t like unnecessary acts of violence and cruelty. He even plans to mutiny after they collected the treasure so no one would get hurt. He puts on airs of cruelty to keep his crew in line. I think as the film goes on that’s clear.

Silver is rather greedy and cunning, having spent most of his life searching for the treasure of Captain Flint, but he has a caring side, too, and understands that friendship can be more important than treasure. He dislikes unnecessary acts of violence and cruelty, originally intending to mutiny only after the treasure was in hand, and thus, avoiding bloodshed as much as possible, and is generally honest and honorable in his piratical dealings. Nonetheless, he maintains a constant air of harsh brutality and deception around his crewmates, understandably necessary to maintain his position as their leader.

Top Choice: Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Image result for treasure planet silver

Image result for jeffrey dean morgan

Sooooo, I think JDM and Javier Bardem are basically twins so physically they both could do it but I think JDM has a charisma about him that would work for John Silver. The man is a cyborg so I would think a mixture of CGI and prosthetic or motion capture or something would work for this character. He always seemed to also be an alien who also was a cyborg. But I think JDM would be able to pull off all the character changes that Silver does in the film. The unassuming Chef, a strong father figure/mentor to Jim and of course the hard pirate that he really is, even though he really becomes that mentor to Jim lol. Plus, while he can’t seem to charm Captain Amelia, I’d imagine he’d be able to charm and intimidate others. JDM would be great at that.

Honorable Mentions: Javier Bardem, Manu Bennett

Captain Amelia

Amelia is quick-witted, fast-talking, and a force of will. She is proud, strong-minded, business-like, and scornful of flattery. Her speech is educated, courteous and to-the-point, oftentimes sarcastic but always with undeniable authority that quickly dominates the conversation with others. She’s a hardass and I love her for it lol. She is enthusiastic about adventure, has great agility, sleight of hand and of course she’s British lol. She’s very demanding of her crew and will appreciate talent but maybe not quick on the draw about treason. She’s smart and very brave when she needs to be. She’s awesome!

Younger

Top Choice: Hayley Atwell

PeggyCarter

Captain Amelia is very similar to Peggy Carter in ways and it think Hayley Atwell would play all of her personality really well. She has that feisty personality; she has a classic look and I think she’d have a commanding presence to keep all of those men on her ship in line. Just like Silver, she could be prosthetic and CGI or motion capture as well, but I think with her being a cat/woman hybrid, there are ways to make it look real and not follow in the footsteps of this new Cats movie and whatever that is lol.

Older

Cate Blanchett-skews a bit older but I think if Captain Amelia is aged up a bit that would be okay. Besides, Cate looks amazing and after seeing her as Hela, she’d be great lol. Plus, I can imagine her giving the same energy with her own flair that Emma Thompson gave as her voice actress. Plus, she’d fit well with my older choice for the Dr.

Honorable Mention: Naomie Harris

Dr. Delbert Doppler

He is the classic astronomer who is clumsy in both body and words but he’s intelligent. He is a pacifist except when it counts lol. He’s very kind and he clearly cares a lot for both Jim and Sarah and he’s always willing to help them whenever he can. Being that he is a scientist, he gets excited about discovering Flint’s Treasure and funds the exploration. He gets to go through a lot of emotions in this film, as he starts off very optimistic, but unsure of what to do and how to handle being in space, and then not feeling useful because he doesn’t know how to handle Amelia’s wounds later on. Delbert might be a little annoying but he’s loyal and you can know he’s on your side.

Younger

Top Choice: Brandon Routh

Image result for dr. delbert doppler

lgn317c-0278b-1-1096631-1280x0

He would be perfect! Delbert is similar to Ray in ways from Legends of Tomorrow. Brandon Routh is so likable; he’s a dork and it works for Delbert! I think he’d be perfect! He can be clumsy, not coming off very brave until he needs to be and I think he’d have great chemistry with Hayley Atwell and she’d definitely come off much cooler than him. Routh would be able to handle this character and keep him just as lovable as he was in the animated film.

Honorable Mentions: Andrew Garfield, Matthew Gray Gubler

Older

Gary Oldman-skewing older for this character as well but I think he’d be good with Cate Blanchett as Captain Amelia. He is a great character actor and he’d be so good at this role. It’s an unassuming role and he’d get to have fun. I think he and Cate Blanchett would play off each other very well. I’d love to see it.

Honorable Mentions: David Tennant, Jeff Goldblum,

B.E.N.

58475d484070c08137d0b4418f0682a5B.E.N is funny, forgetful (formerly), temperamental, rambunctious, hyperactive, neurotic, insane, friendly, optimistic, overemotional, melodramatic, sensitive, loyal, clumsy, obsessive, cheerful, talkative, somewhat irritating. He’s a robot who worked for Captain Flint and knows the location to the treasure but had his memory literally removed lol. BEN is annoying but he and Jim do create a friendship.

Choices: Martin Short, Alan Tudyk, Calum Worthy. I don’t have just one choice for this role because it’d could be played by anyone with nice comedic timing and I can’t help but to hear Martin Short’s voice each time I think about him. SO, I chose people in my top choices who I think would do well in general.

Mr. Scroop

Related image

This dude is scary… that’s all that matters here lol. The choices I have below are all the people I think could do this role. I mean, they’re all great at having various voices going on here and I would in particular like to see Jared Leto or Lee Pace do the role since Serkis and Cumbersnatch often play rolls like this.

Choices: Andy Serkis, Benedict Cumbersnatch, Gary Oldman, Jared Leto, Lee Pace

Sarah Hawkins

Image result for sarah hawkins

I chose actresses who I thought could emulate her optimism, hardworking, and frustrated attitude she has at the beginning. I also wanted to choose actress who I thought looked like Timothee Chalamet. It’s a smaller role but she has a big impact on Jim’s life and some of the choices he makes, so I think it’s important to have someone who can be that. Of course, the actress shouldn’t look too young but I think Sarah and her husband were young parents, so anyone in their mind 30s-late 40s would work well.

Choices: Bridget Regan, Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Sienna Miller

Mr. Arrow

He’s a rock man lol. He dies in the film but he’s the Captain’s right-hand man, her first mate. He’s imposing and loyal.

Boom done!

These are my choices for a Live Action version of Disney’s Treasure Planet. It’s such a great film and so underrated. I’ve liked most of the live action remakes so far, some way more than others obviously, but I think this movie would benefit for a remake and besides, it really lends itself well to live action.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below about my choices. Tell me your choices for your cast and let’s discuss!

Fan Casting: The Lunar Chronicles

lunar-chronicles-by-marissa-meyer

Behold: The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I have to say that I wanted to read the first book for a long time. I saw that awesome cover in a Barnes & Noble and I wanted to buy it, but I was in college and broke. Cut to some years later, I’m working in the library and I see it on the Young Adult shelves, so excited, check it out and speed right on through it. Loved it. I tried to read Scarlet, but I got caught up in reading John Green’s novels so I took a break. Came back, reread Cinder and went right on through to Cress, as well as Fairest (the short story about the villain) and impatiently awaited Winter.
So, after reading the entire series, my friend and I were talking about whether we wanted a movie franchise or a television series. With books like these, a movie would be best considering the budget would allow for more but a television series would allow more character development that would be needed for these characters considering how interesting and rich they are. A movie would have the chance to butcher them if not done well. So, we’re going to cast our dream cast for the film/television series and who knows, we may even outline how a first season would work. I mean, we have it worked out ideally, but in order for it to be technical, I need to read the books again.
Cast and Characters.

So this is the list of our fan casting. So, someone give me a call, I would be glad to help out. Cinder the first book could fill two seasons, or at least a season and a half. Each book could literally be 1 1/2 or two seasons.
What do you think of this fan casting? Let me know in the comments below! If you have a different idea for a character, definitely let me know! You may find someone better!
Don’t forget to follow and like!
