Happy New Year!
Sending all the positive vibes to everyone for 2025. I hope you accomplish all of your goals!
But it’s a New Year! We have new movies, new content, new actors and characters to meet and fall in love with, not to mention returning to ones we love and are familiar with. This list is for the movies and tv shows coming out in 2025 that I’m excited for. As per usual, I will also have a list of movies/tv shows that I’m not really anticipating but I still would be interested in seeing.
Also, movies always pop up throughout the year that I didn’t know about, so they may not appear on this list. I’m going to also try to do trailer reactions to a lot of these and add them to the list!
Anticipated Movies/Shows I Really Want To See
January
February
Sweet Magnolias (Netflix) – Feb 6: Season 4 returns to Serenity, following the romantic lives of Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen from Halloween to Christmas. Per Netflix, the group “must also navigate the return of old foes, the loss of great loves, and the pain of transition from past dreams to present ones. I surprisingly ended up really liking this show even though I came here for an actor for a fancasting. I’m happy to have it back!
Captain America: Brave New World – Feb 14: Sam Wilson, who’s officially taken up the mantle of Captain America, finds himself in the middle of an international incident. I think a Valentine’s Day release is funny BUT Feb is Black History Month and I think this is black history lol. I haven’t really seen many trailers but it’s an MCU movie so I’m generally interested on principal lol.
March
Sinners – March 7: Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. I will always support my mans lol. I haven’t seen MBJ in anything in a minute so I’m interested to see him in another project with Ryan Coogler.
April
Until Dawn – Apr 25: A group spends the weekend in a ski lodge on the anniversary of their friends’ disappearance, unaware that they are not alone. I really love the game, even though I’ve only ever played the prologue lol. There’s a cast but we don’t know anything else. I hear that the characters in the movie are new characters and that’s annoying to me. But I’m interested to see what they do.
May
Thunderbolts – May 5: A group of supervillains are recruited to go on missions for the government. I still haven’t seen the trailer for this, at least not really. Is Bucky still considered a “villain” at this point? But I’m gonna be there, I love Bucky and I really enjoyed Florence Pugh’s Yelena so I’m really there for the two of them. I also really like the movie poster lol.
Lilo & Stitch – May 23: Live-action remake of Disney’s animated classic ‘Lilo and Stitch’. I think Stitch looks really good and while I wasn’t pleased with Nani’s casting in particular, I like everything else I’ve seen so far.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – May 23: Part 2 of Dead Reckoning which I did overall enjoy. I should do a MI marathon. But I’m usually sat for a Mission Impossible movie. I love Tom Cruise, I love watching Ethan Hunt do crazy shenanigans, I am still extremely salty about what they did with Ilsa in Part 1 but I hope the story concludes on a high point in this one.
June
How to Train Your Dragon – June 13: Follows a young Viking as he aspires to hunt dragons, and how he unexpectedly becomes a friend of a young dragon. The animated trilogy is fantastic so I wasn’t surprised that this movie would be the first of Dreamworks’ live action remakes. I thought the teaser was strong and I think Toothless looks great. I’m mildly excited.
Ironheart (Disney+) – June 24: Following the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, MIT student Riri Williams returns home to Chicago where she becomes entangled with the enigmatic Parker Robbins discovering secrets that pit technology against magic and setting her on a path of danger and adventure. I enjoyed her in Wakanda Forever and I enjoyed her earlier comics when she was introduced… so I’m interested in seeing her in her own show, to see her origins and see where she goes after the film she was introduced in. I’m optimistic.
July
The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25: One of Marvel’s most iconic families makes it back to the big screen, the Fantastic Four. I’ve always liked the Fantastic Four, even if the last 3 movies aren’t overall that good. I’m not impressed with the casting but I like Joseph Quinn a lot, and I’m interested to see how they incorporate the first family into the MCU and how the cast does. I’m very interested in seeing Joseph Quinn as Johnny. So there’s that lol.
August
September
October
Michael – October 3: The story of the famous musician Michael Jackson, known as the King of Pop. I am such a fan of Michael Jackson, that when I heard about this and that Jermaine Jackson’s son Jaafar Jackson is playing his uncle, I was like oh wow. I hope he can act lol. I listened to him sing and he sounds like a Jackson lol. But I think the cast is quite good so I’m interested. I hope it’s good.
November
Now You See Me 3 – Nov 14: A third installment of the ‘Now You See Me’ franchise. Plot undisclosed. I really enjoyed the first one and the second one is fun. So sure! Let’s go!
Wicked: For Good – Nov 21: Follows Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West and her relationship with Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. The second of a two-part feature film adaptation of the Broadway musical. Part one was great, check out my review. But I’m very excited to see how they adapt the second half, the first half was much better than I expected. This intermission is too long!
Zootopia 2 – Nov 26: Brave rabbit cop Judy Hopps and her friend, the fox Nick Wilde, team up again to crack a new case, the most perilous and intricate of their careers. I loved the first Zootopia. I enjoy both Judy and Nick and I’m interested to see what new case they get on together, now that Nick is also a cop. I just hope it didn’t change his personality too much lol.
December
DATES TBD:
Alice in Borderland – Season 3 (Netflix): Arisu – a listless, jobless and video-game-obsessed young man – suddenly finds himself in a strange, emptied-out version of Tokyo in which he and his friends must compete in dangerous games in order to survive. I was surprised that they even were for real about a season 3 considering how season 2 ends. I need to finish reading the manga actually lol. But since it seems to really be happening, I’m so excited to see what they do next. Don’t push it though. I don’t need it dragged out.
Caught Stealing – Burned-out ex-baseball player Hank Thompson unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined. Austin Butler is in it lol but also it has a good cast so that’s cool.
Frankenstein (Netflix): Victor Frankenstein strives to restore life to the dead and succeeds in creating a horrific creature. I enjoy the Frankenstein story but OSCAR ISAAC? I’m there. Omg.
Knives Out 3 – There’s nothing here but I really hope they don’t call it “A Knives Out Story” and then give it some other title. I felt like that was so dumb for Glass Onion. But I really enjoyed the first two so I’m curious to see what the new mystery would be.
Percy Jackson & The Olympians – Season 2 (Disney+): Demigod Percy Jackson leads a quest across America to prevent a war among the Olympian gods. This second season will follow the second book “Sea of Monsters”. I think the first season was good and I’m excited to see how the adapt the second book. I’ll need to rewatch obviously but I never reviewed it so I gotta get on that.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse – After leaving off from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the story continues. I mean, iconic comic book, superhero and animated films. I remember hearing that it was delayed indefinitely and maybe that’s still true but I’m hoping that not only does Sony pay their team the money they deserve but that the movie is quality.
Squid Game – Season 3 (Netflix): A continuation of the show and considering how Season 2 ends, they have some threads to tie up.
Stranger Things – Season 5 (Netflix): I just need them to not piss me off. This show has taken way too long so I hope the quality is top tier.
You – Season 5 (Netflix): Who knows what shenanigans Joe will get into but since he’s with Kate now, interested to see how he does with her resources.
Movies/Shows I’m Not Anticipating but Want To See:
January:
The Last Showgirl – Jan 10: A seasoned showgirl must plan for her future when her show abruptly closes after a 30-year run.
Goosebumps: The Vanishing (Disney+) – Jan 10: In Season 2, teenage siblings discover a threat within their home, setting off a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the story of five teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994. Crazy that this didn’t come out October of 2024 but the first season had it’s moments, I was definitely there for Justin Long lol. But I’m curious to see what happens since the way Season 1 ended was lowkey crazy.
Wish You Were Here – Jan 17: A woman searching for a spark finds a whirlwind night of romance with a man only to discover he is terminally ill and commits to helping him spend his last days living life to the fullest. I was excited to see that Mena Massoud is another movie and that it’s a romance which I’ve always said I wanted to see him do. That one movie on Netflix was fine but then I read that this one is him DYING. I cannot.
Love Me – Jan 31: A postapocalyptic romance in which a buoy and a satellite meet online and fall in love after the end of human civilization. Because pardon me? This premise lol but I also love Kristen Stewart.
February
Love Hurts – Feb 7: A realtor is pulled back into the life he left behind after his former partner-in-crime resurfaces with an ominous message. With his crime-lord brother also on his trail, he must confront his past and the history he never fully buried.
The Gorge – Feb 14: Two elite snipers are assigned a mysterious mission: to guard either side of a deep and impenetrable gorge, without knowing what actually lies beneath them. Seems interesting and I like Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller.
March
Opus – March 14: An iconic pop star returns after decades missing. I know nothing about this movie other than Ayo Edibiri is in it and I like her a lot.
Disney’s Snow White – March 21: Live-action adaptation of the 1937 Disney animated film ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’. Unlike other Disney remakes, I’m not as excited for this one as Snow White isn’t one of my favorite of the animated films. I also don’t like Snow White’s final recreated look and it doesn’t move me in the way others have. But I’m gonna see it.
April
The Amateur – Apr 11: A CIA cryptographer manages to blackmail his agency into training him to let him go after a group of terrorist who killed his wife. I love Rami Malek lol.
Hell of a Summer – Apr 18: As the counselors are getting Camp Pineway ready the night before the campers arrive, a masked killer begins killing the staff. Finn Wolfhard’s directorial debut, that’s cool. I hope it’s good. I also like him so I’ll support.
May
Atlantis – May 9: A musical inspired by Pharrell Williams’ childhood in Virginia Beach. No offense to Pharrell but I’m here for the casting. Kelvin Harrison Jr. who I’ve been a fan of for a long time. Halle Bailey? Quinta Brunson? Love it.
Karate Kid: Legends – May 30: Kung fu prodigy Li Fong is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City. When a friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition. Li’s teacher Mr. Han enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso for help. I like the Karate Kid series, I haven’t watched Cobra Kai and I hope I don’t need to lol even though I might give it a try later. But I’m interested in seeing the story continue.
June
Ballerina – June 6: A young female assassin seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. I mean… sure lol. Good cast. Apparently it’s related to John Wick, that’s cool.
Elio – June 13: Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination, finds himself on a cosmic misadventure where he must form new bonds with alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be. Animation is really cute.
Becoming the Night: A Nightwing Story – Jun 19: In 2034 Batman Inc. is the leading body of government in the United States and meta-humans are now a rare breed from their powers being stricken by mandatory vaccines and chemical-tainted food and water. I don’t know what this is or if it’s true but the fact that a live action Nightwing movie is about his son??? I don’t think I care either way but I love Dick Grayson so I’m curious. That’s it.
M3GAN 2.0 – June 27: Plot under wraps. I really liked the first one lol. Let’s go!
July
Jurassic World Rebirth – Jul 2: Five years post-Jurassic World Dominion, an expedition braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough. *sighs* But Jonathan Bailey is in it so sure!
Superman Legacy – Jul 11: Follows the titular superhero as he reconciles his heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the human way in a world that views this as old-fashioned. I don’t like that they’ve seemed to change the name to remove “legacy” from the title. Lame. But I mean, the poster is cool.
I Know What You Did Last Summer – Jul 18: A group of friends is terrorized by a stalker who knows about a gruesome incident from their past.
August
The Bad Guys 2 – Aug 1: The Bad Guys are struggling to find trust and acceptance in their newly minted lives as Good Guys, when they are pulled out of retirement and forced to do “one last job” by an all-female squad of criminals. I liked the first movie. The characters are likable so I’m there.
Eyes of Wakanda (Disney+) – Aug 6: The Hatut Zaraze, Wakandan warriors, carry out dangerous missions around the world to retrieve vibranium artifacts throughout history. A very cool premise.
Freakier Friday – Aug 8: Years after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might strike twice. I need to know who is switching bodies lol. Are all four of them switching??
September
The Bride – Sept 6: In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change.
October
Tron: Ares – Oct 10: A highly sophisticated Program, Ares, is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission. Sorry, I like Jared Leto as an actor lol.
The Black Phone 2 – Oct 17: Plot under wraps. I liked the first one.
Good Fortune – Oct 17: A struggling man who gets his life swapped with his wealthy friend by a mystical force. He inherits his friend’s lavish lifestyle, while while his friend experiences his financial hardships. Keanu Reeves plays an Angel lol.
Mortal Kombat 2 – Oct 24: Plot under wraps. I watched the first one.
November
December
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – Dec 5: Anyone can survive five nights. This time, there will be no second chances. The first one is fine I guess, but I was annoyed they didn’t follow the plot of the games better even the lore/story of the games hasn’t been “confirmed”. I didn’t like the inclusion of Vanessa and that Mike wasn’t an Afton… I don’t know lol. But sure, I like the games (even though I’ve never played) so I’ll give it a looksee.
Avatar: Fire and Ash – Dec 19: Sequel of Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). The plot is unknown. I’m interested to see where they go after the events of the second one.
Wonder Man (Disney+) – Dec TDB: Hollywood actor Simon Williams is thrust into the world of superheroes as he gets powers of his own, and becomes the new superhero Wonder Man. I don’t particularly have any opinion but I’m interested a bit.
DATES TBD
In Broad Daylight: Follows the chronicles of an international con-artist. Mena Massoud is in it. That’s it.
Legally Blonde 3 : Plot unknown. Third installment of ‘Legally Blonde’. Know nothing about this movie but I like the first one a lot, so interested to see what other shenanigans Elle gets into. They did announce a prequel tv series. There’s nothing much about it yet but does her daughter act? Does she want to? They’re twins, my goodness.
Sister Act 3 – Disney+: Apparently still… so we’ll see I guess lol.
Untitled Fred Astaire Biopic – Plot under wraps. So, Tom Holland is playing Fred Astaire and I like Tom Holland and I want him to win. So…. I’ll be there but I have no other thoughts about it right now.
Looks like that’s it for now! Movies and shows always pop up throughout the year that may not be on the list but that doesn’t mean I won’t see them lol.
