2018 is going to be an amazing year, that’s what they all say. I’m interested in seeing the amount of movies that come out this year. I think I did better in 2017 than I did in 2016 and I hope I do even better in 2018 with seeing the movies I want to see and being a reviewer and doing my thing.
I’m sure there is also going to be a lot of movies that pop up during the year that won’t be on this list but that’s fine because this list contains the movies that I know about.
So, just like last year, I’m going to do my most anticipated movies by month.
January
**Jan is usually a hard month because generally everything that comes out is terrible. Most times the good ones were released limited in December, but hit large theaters in January IE: Split, Hidden Figures. So we’ll see what we got.
Molly Game’s, The Post– were limited releases but I believe they come out everyone Jan 5. 2018. I want to see them both. Most likely Oscar contenders.
Proud Mary – Jan 12.- She is a hitman, who works for an organized crime thing, and when she meets a little kid, things change. It looks interesting, I like Taraji P. Henson and I’m interested to see her in a role like this. She did something like this with Smoking’ Aces, so I’m interested to see her do even more than that in this movie.
February
BLACK PANTHER- Feb 16. : T’Challa, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. I MEAN this movie needs no introduction. It’s BLACK PANTHER! I have been following the Marvel Studios movies since the beginning, I have read the comics and I think this character is so awesome and interesting. So is his story. The cast! THE CAST IS AWESOME! My husband is in this movie and I’m excited to see him be the villain. I’m so ready.
Annihilation Feb. 23: A biologist signs up for a dangerous, secret expedition where the laws of nature don’t apply. This looks SO GOOD! Plus, Oscar Isaac is in it and that’s all the prompting I need to see a movie he’s in. Also this is done by the same people who did Ex Machina and that movie is fantastic. So yep, signed up.
March
A Wrinkle in Time – Mar 9: After the disappearance of her scientist father, three peculiar beings send Meg, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him. I read this book as a kid, and I remember loving it. I need to reread it as an adult, but I’m excited. It looks great, it has a great cast, I love the diversity in it and I think it could be something wonderful. I’m excited.
Thoroughbreds- Mar 9: Two upper-class teenage girls in suburban Connecticut rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. Together, they hatch a plan to solve both of their problems-no matter what the cost. It looks really good. The two lead actresses, especially Anya Taylor-Joy, have been good in what I’ve seen with them. I’m curious.
Tomb Raider- Mar 16: Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared. I love the new video games, I’ve played both of them and thoroughly enjoy them. I think Alicia Vikander is a great actress, it’ll be interesting to see her do an action role like this and while I know a lot of people are like “meh”, I’m interested to see what happens and how the movie turns out. I know it’s based on the newer games, so Lara is younger, I’m interested in that.
Ready Player One- Mar 30:When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune. Wade Watts finds the first clue and starts a race for the Egg. Hopefully, I’ll read the book first, doubt it, lol and I have no idea what it’s actually about but the trailer makes me excited. Every time I see the DeLorean car from BTTF, I get excited, plus hearing the “Pure Imagination” instrumental in the theme song, I’m so curious. SOOOOO ready.
April
A Quiet Place- Apr 6: A family lives an isolated existence in utter silence, for fear of an unknown threat that follows and attacks at any sound. This might be one of the two horror movies I want to see. The trailer is so interesting in that it’s silent the entire time because the family has to be silent. I’m interested plus Emily Blunt is great.
New Mutants- Apr 13: Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves. It’s X-men… I’m down.
May
Avengers: Infinity War-May 4:The Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe. NO INTRODUCTION! I’M ALREADY STRESSED OUT! I cannot wait. Again, I’ve been with these movies since the beginning and I’m ready to see what happens, I know I’m going to flip out because people (probably Steve *cries*) are gonna die. I can’t take the pressure. I’m excited. I can’t wait!
Untitled Laika Project- May 18: No details on this movie yet but I LOVE LAIKA (Coraline, Paranormal, The Box-Trolls, Kubo and the Two Strings) and I have no idea what it is but I want it. They denied me last year so… bring it on!
Solo: A Star Wars Story- May 25: Han Solo and Chewbacca’s adventures before joining the Rebellion, including their early encounters with Lando Calrissian. So I’m interested because I like Star Wars, this probably a little less anticipated but anticipated. Donald Glover is a great casting choice and I think the actor playing Han Solo could be good, but who knows, so we’ll see. Plus, it’s Star Wars.
June
Deadpool 2- Jun 1: This description is super long lol so I didn’t copy it, but I enjoyed the first one so I’m interested in the second one. It’ll be great to see what Ryan Reynolds does next with this character he was born to play.
Incredibles II- Jun 15:Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) is left to care for Jack-Jack while Helen (Elastigirl) is out saving the world. I don’t know how I really feel about this synopsis and if it’s true BUT I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE I CAN HARDLY STAND IT!! I love the first one to pieces, it’s my favorite Pixar movie and I can’t wait. I hope they really get the family in there like they did the first time. I know they’re not older like the rest of us, which is cool, but if they do a Incredibles III, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack should be aged up and kicking even more butt!!
July
Ant-Man and the Wasp- Jul 6: As Scott Lang balances being both a Super Hero and a father, Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man fighting alongside The Wasp to uncover secrets from their past. I mean, it’s Marvel and I liked Ant-Man so I’m interested, plus I can’t wait to see what they do with Janet and how she comes back. I’m curious.
Mission Impossible 6- Jul 27: No idea what the plot is but I love these movies. So I’m down.
August
September
Robin Hood- Sept 21:A gritty take on the classic Robin Hood story. I love Robin Hood stories AND I LOVE TARON EGERTON! So enough said.
October
November
X-Men: Dark Phoenix- Nov 2:Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world. I liked the young characters in X-Men: Apocalypse even though the movie was not very good. I want to see Sansa become the Dark Phoenix and I want to see the newer actors in the iconic roles… get rid of Mystique for a while though please *rolls eyes*.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms- Nov 2:A young girl is transported into a magical world of gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice. I love the Nutcracker and I’m interested to see what Disney does… it looks too much like Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland which I don’t care for, but I have hopes they fix that.
Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald- Nov 16:The second installment of the ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ series which follows the adventures of Newt Scamander. Anticipating it but not like super excited, I’m interested in seeing what they do. The first movie was meh, so I hope this one handles everything better, plus I love a lot of the cast members.
Wreck It Ralph: Ralph Breaks the Internet- Nov 23:6 years after the events of “Wreck-It Ralph”, Ralph and Vanellope, now friends, discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a new adventure. This first one was very surprising and I enjoyed it quite a lot, so I’m excited to see where they’re gonna go with this. Plus, there is supposed to be a whole thing with the Disney princesses and I can’t wait to see what that is.
December
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse- Dec 14: The plot is secret still but the TRAILER LOOKS AMAZING!!! The graphics are amazing. Oh my goodness, I’m excited. Plus it’s Miles Morales.
Mary Poppins Returns- Dec 23: In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. I love the first one, it’s a classic so I’m interested in seeing what they do. I think Emily Blunt will be a great Mary Poppins and LIN MANUEL MIRANDA is in it. So yeah it’s great.
Not really Anticipating but want to see:
January
12 Strong- Movie about the horseman during the war. It looks interesting and I like Chris Hemsworth.
February
Samson- Feb. 16: After losing the love of his life to a cruel Philistine prince, a young Hebrew with Supernatural strength defends his people, sacrificing everything to avenge his love, his people, and his God. This looks horrible and I want to see just how bad it is lol.
Every Day- Feb 23:Every Day tells the story of Rhiannon (Angourie Rice), a 16-year old girl who falls in love with a mysterious spirit named “A” who inhabits a different body every day. I read this book and I liked it a lot. I’m interested to see how they handle the story. Hopefully they won’t try to be too heavy-handed with some of the stuff I thought the book was being heavy handed about. It’s a movie based on a YA book so while the book was good, we’ll see if the movie can enhance the story.
Game Night- Feb 23: Max and Annie, have a weekly couples game night. It gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks, arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. It looks fun but I also have a feeling it’ll be super stupid, so sign me up. (this also says it’s coming out in March sooo who knows lol)
March
Red Sparrow- Mar 2.: Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to ‘Sparrow School’ a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. But her first mission, targeting a CIA agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations. It has a good cast, though it seems like it should have been the Black Widow movie instead, since Natasha has a similar story in the comics. It’ll be interesting to actually see Jennifer Lawrence do action stuff, that’s not running and shooting arrows.
Alpha- Mar 2: A story of survival set 20,000 years ago during the last Ice Age. It has Kodi Smit-McPhee and I really like him, he’s a very good and likable actor. I saw a trailer when I saw Star Wars: The Last Jedi and it doesn’t look like anything special, but I’m interested to see the bond between him and the wolf (I love wolves).
Love, Simon- Mar 16:Everyone deserves a great love story. But for Simon it’s complicated: no-one knows he’s gay and he doesn’t know who the anonymous classmate is that he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, scary and life-changing. It looks interesting, I think it’s based on a YA book, at least it feels like it. I think it’ll be good, but I’m not in anticipation for it. Plus, I like the young actors in this, mostly Katherine Langford and Nick Robinson.
Pacific Rim Uprising- Mar 23:Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat. I enjoyed the first one for the most part, and I like John Boyega… sooo interested.
April
May
A Star Is Born- May 18:A movie star helps a young singer/actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral. I have no idea what this movie is, but Anthony Ramos is in it and I’m interested in seeing him in a movie. Also said to be released nationwide in October.
June
Ocean’s 8- Jun 8:Debbie Ocean gathers a crew to attempt an impossible heist at New York City’s yearly Met Gala. I’ve never seen the original or the remake with Clooney, but it looks interesting. It has a good cast.
Sicario 2: Soldado- Jun 23:The drug war on the US-Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver re-teams with the mercurial Alejandro. The trailer looks good, I want to see it. The first one was phenomenal, such an intense ride. Hopefully the intensity remains now that we’re no longer looking through the eyes of an innocent viewer.
July
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation- Jul 13: Mavis surprises Dracula with a family voyage on a luxury Monster Cruise Ship so he can take a vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. I like the other two, they’re really cute so I’m gonna see this one.
August
The Equalizer 2- Aug 3:Plot unknown. A sequel to the 2014 film, “The Equalizer”, which is based on the TV series about a retired agent who’s a hired gun for vengeance. I think the first one was awesome, so interested to see what happens next.
September
The Darkest Minds- Sept 14: After a disease kills 98% of America’s children, the surviving 2% develop superpowers and are placed in internment camps. A 16-year-old girl escapes her camp and joins a group of other teens on the run from the government. Based on a YA book, but it sounds interesting and I like Gwendoline Christie, Mandy Moore and Amandla Stenberg.
October
Venom- Oct 5. Plot unknown. As of right now I’m curious, I’m not excited I just wanna see some stuff.
The Jungle Book OR Mowgli- Oct 19:A human child raised by wolves, must face off against a menacing tiger named Shere Khan, as well as his own origins. I like this story, and while Disney did their version, I’m interested to see this “darker” take. So, yeah.
November
December
Mortal Engines- Dec 14: Many years after the “Sixty Minute War,” cities survive a now desolate Earth by moving around on giant wheels attacking and devouring smaller towns to replenish their resources. I know it’s based on a book, never heard of either until I saw the trailer once and it looks interesting. It’s being directed by Peter Jackson and he has a knack for having a great directive eye in which his films always look good.
Aquaman- Dec 21:Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and to be a hero to the world. I enjoyed Jason Momoa in Justice League, so I’m interested in seeing what this film will be like. For one thing, I hope the underwater scenes are much better than they were in JL and I hope they let Mera do cooler stuff like she actually can do in the comics AND that they figure out some way to have they converse underwater without having to always do the water bubble thing because that’s lame. So, curious lol.
Bohemian Rhapsody- Dec 28:A chronicle of the years leading up to Queen’s legendary appearance at the Live Aid (1985) concert in 1985. I don’t know much about Freddie Mercury, though I do like Queen a lot, but Rami Malek is in this so I’m interested and I love him.
