Here’s to hoping that 2023 is an overall better year. 2022 was a good year for movies, I think we had a lot of good stuff that came out, I’m so behind on reviews and I really want to get my shit together. There are reasons and things I think could help out with that but we’re gonna work with what we got!
But it’s a New Year! We have new movies, new content, new actors and characters to meet and fall in love with, not to mention returning to ones we love and are familiar with. This list is for the movies coming out in 2023 that I’m excited for. As per usual, I will also have a list of movies that I’m not really anticipating but I still would be interested in seeing.
Also, movies always pop up throughout the year that I didn’t know about, so they may not appear on this list. It’s also funny to see movies that should have come out in 2020 or 2021 appear on this list because of delays. I might throw some shows on there as well.
Anticipated Movies/Shows I Really Want To See
January
February
You – Feb 9 (TV SHOW/Netflix): A dangerously charming, intensely obsessive young man goes to extreme measures to insert himself into the lives of those he is transfixed by. I love this show and I can’t wait to see what shenanigans Joe gets into while in Europe.
Bel-Air – Feb 23 (TV SHOW/Peacock): The journey of a street-smart teen whose life is forever transformed when he moves from the streets of West Philadelphia to live with his relatives in one of LA’s wealthiest suburbs. I still have to watch Season 1, I’m going to try and do it for my YouTube channel but I definitely want to watch.
March
Creed III- March 3: Adonis has been thriving in both his career and family life, but when a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy resurfaces, the face-off is more than just a fight. This is MBJ’s directorial debut and I’m so happy and excited to see what he does with the story and the film. I’ve loved the other two Creed movies (the first one is so good), so I’m excited to see what’s going on in this film. I’m glad that this new character played by Jonathan Majors (who is an amazing actor) is someone from Donny’s past and not somehow related to Apollo or Rocky. I will always support my husband lol.
Check Out My Trailer Reaction:
John Wick: Chapter 4- March 24: John Wick uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes. Sooooooo, another John Wick with Keanu Reeves? Sign me up please. I definitely missed the trailer for this though lol
April
May
The Fast X – May 19: Plot unknown. I’m invested now lol. I need to know how it ends. If this is really the ending.
The Little Mermaid – May 26: A young mermaid makes a deal with a sea witch, to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can discover the world above water and impress a prince. You don’t understand how excited for this movie I am, this is probably in my top 5 of most anticipated movies of 2023. I really hope it’s good, because while not all of the remakes have been good, I have ultimately enjoyed most of the live action remakes so my fingers are crossed for this one. If anything, I believe in Halle Bailey.
Check Out My Trailer Reaction:
June
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One): June 2. Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered. The first one is a masterpiece, so I’m so excited for this one. The first look we saw is amazing. I’m so excited to see more of Miles. I haven’t seen any other trailers and I plan to keep it that way.
Into the Spider-Verse Movie Review
Check Out My Trailer Reaction:
The Flash – June 23: The plot is unknown. Feature film based on the comic book superhero, The Flash. I enjoyed Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash and seeing how he was utilized in the ZSJL film, makes me excited for his movie. It’s been doing it’s thing for a long time and we finally have a date, but we’ll see if it sticks. I think it’s supposed to be the “Flashpoint” storyline, where Barry goes back in time to try and save his mother from dying and his father from being wrongly imprisoned… Michael Keaton is also supposed to be returning as Batman, so lots of interesting stuff here. I just hope that the movie and the characters are well written. (this was written from my post from the year before and it mostly still stands… but I want to see what is it about this movie that makes them want to keep releasing it even though Ezra has been a menace).
July
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Part One – July 14: Seventh entry in the long-running Mission: Impossible series. Another Mission Impossible movie??? Sign me up.
The Marvels – July 28: Sequel to the 2019 title ‘Captain Marvel’. I’m mostly really excited for this movie because I really liked Monica and Kamala and I’m interested to see more of them. Also the potential of seeing Lashana Lynch because I’m obsessed with her lol.
August
September
Untitled A Quiet Place Spinoff – September 22: Plot unknown. Is this the one that Joseph Quinn was cast in? If so, cool and I’m happy for him. Either way, I have enjoyed both A Quiet Place movies and I’m interested in seeing more of this world.
October
November
Dune: Part Two – Nov 3: A boy becomes the Messiah of nomads on a desert planet that has giant worms that protect a commodity called Spice. Spice changes people into travelers, mystics and madmen. What price will he pay to become the new ruler of their universe? I loved the first one and I really liked the book so I’m very interested in seeing what’s going to happen next in the second half of this movie. I hope it feels like a more “complete” story since the first one doesn’t quite fulfill that to me. I know I know, but a first half of a film should still be able to stand on it’s own.
December
DATES TBD:
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (Netflix): The rise and love life of a young Queen Charlotte. I saw the little clip and thought it was cute, I like Bridgerton (season 2 more than season 1) and I like the Queen, so I’m interested in seeing the backstories of some of the adult characters from the show. Plus, the actress for young Charlotte seems to be quite amazing.
The Bear – Season 2(Hulu): A young chef from the fine dining world returns to Chicago to run his family’s sandwich shop. The first season was really good, and Jeremy Allen White just won his Golden Globe for his role, which I think was deserved. So I’m really interested and invested in this show and these characters. I’d love a Carmy/Sydney romance but I’m also okay if it doesn’t happen.
Peter and Wendy (Disney+): Live-action adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s classic tale of a boy who wouldn’t grow up and recruits three young siblings in London to join him on a magical adventure to the enchanted Neverland island. Definitely excited for this! I love Peter Pan and I’m so interested in this cast and plus, a BROWN Peter Pan and a BLACK Tinker Bell? Omg, let’s go.
Loki – Season 2 (Disney+): The mercurial villain Loki resumes his role as the God of Mischief in a new series that takes place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame.” I liked the first season so I’m interested in seeing what happens in S2, especially with how the first season ended. Kang is going to be in the films now, so will we be dealing with other versions of Kang?
Ironheart (Disney+): Genius teenage inventor Riri Williams creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. I enjoyed her in Wakanda Forever, so I’m interested in seeing her in her own show, to see her origins and see where she goes after the film she was introduced in.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos (Disney+): Plot kept under wraps. No idea what this is going to be like but I’m excited for more Agatha!
Movies/Shows I’m Not Anticipating but Want To See:
January:
M3GAN – Jan 6: A robotics engineer at a toy company builds a life-like doll that begins to take on a life of its own. This movie looks like it’s a funny one and a good time. That dance is hilarious.
Velma – Jan 12 (TV SHOW): The origin of the sleuth and member of the Mystery Inc. gang, Velma. I just wanna see what Mindy Kaling has envisioned.
Check Out My Trailer Reaction:
House Party – Jan 13: A high school student decides to host a house party while his parents are away. A remake of the 1990 comedy, ‘ House Party’. I’ve seen the original a few times but not enough to be like “nostalgic” but I like Jacob Latimore.
The Last Of Us – Jan 15 (TV SHOW): Joel and Ellie, a pair connected through the harshness of the world they live in, are forced to endure brutal circumstances and ruthless killers on a trek across post-pandemic America. I have the first game but I’ve never played but I’ve seen playthroughs and it’s a good game so I’m interested in watching.
February
Magic Mike’s Last Dance – Feb 10: Plot kept under wraps. I haven’t looked but is Matt Bomer or Adam Rodriguez in this one? If not… then I actually don’t care lol.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania – Feb 17: Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, along with Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, explore the Quantum Realm, where they interact with strange creatures and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. So it’s the third Ant-Man film and the next movie in the MCU and while I’m excited I’m not like super anticipating it, I like Ant-Man but I’m not jumping out of my skin for the movie.
Check Out My Trailer Reaction:
March
65 – March 10: An astronaut crash lands on a mysterious planet only to discover he’s not alone. I saw the trailer for this and it looks interesting because it wasn’t gonna be on my list otherwise.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods – March 17: The film continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word “SHAZAM!” is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam. I really liked the first Shazam! and I’m into this one but the trailer makes me be less excited for it because I feel like Zachary Levi more than ever just isn’t the right Shazam for Asher Angel’s Billy to me and I feel like the jokes are just… annoying in the trailer lol. But I’m into the movie.
Check Out My Trailer Reaction:
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves – March 31: A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic, but things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people. I only know about D&D because of Stranger Things and I still don’t even get how to play the game but I like some of the cast members and it looks fun.
April
Super Mario Bros. Movie – April 7: A plumber named Mario travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess. Feature film adaptation of the popular video game. So I’ve seen that first trailer which was super cute, I think most of the cast are good choices but I’ve only seen that first teaser so I only heard a glimpse of Chris Pratt as Mario and was not impressed, still don’t get it but I’m interested. Jack Black as Bowser is inspired.
Renfield – April 14: Dracula’s henchman and inmate at the lunatic asylum. This looks quite fun, I didn’t know what to expect when I saw the trailer but it’s nice seeing Nicholas Hoult with his own accent lol, but I’m ready to have a good time with this movie. Also, that shock of who Dracula is had me cracking up.
May
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – May 5: Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own – a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful. I love the first one and the second one was just alright for me so I’m not suuuper excited for this, not to mention, I think this is the last one that Rocket will be in and I’m going to miss that talking Trash Panda. *Cries*. He’s my favorite for a reason.
June
Elemental – June 16: Follows Ember and Wade, in a city where fire-, water-, land- and air-residents live together. I didn’t see the teaser for this, I’ll wait for the trailer but it’s a Pixar film and I’m always down for that.
July
Barbie – July 21: To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken. I actually missed the first teaser for this so I’ll wait for the next trailer to do a reaction for and maybe I’ll get more excited but I have always been a Barbie fan lol.
August
Challengers – Aug 11: Follows three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner, and reignite old rivalries on and off the court. No idea what this movie is about, never heard of it but Zendaya? Sign me up. I also really enjoyed Mike Faist in West Side Story so I’d be interested in seeing more of him.
Haunted Mansion – Aug 11: A single mom named Gabbie hires a tour guide, a psychic, a priest, and a historian to help exorcise their newly bought mansion; after discovering it is inhabited by ghosts. Sure! Why not lol, I like the cast lol.
Blue Beetle – Aug 18: A Mexican teenager finds an alien beetle that gives him superpowered armor. I loved him in Young Justice so I’m interested but I’m waiting for that teaser or trailer to get me pumped. Also, the poster is fantastic.
September
October
Kraven the Hunter – Oct 6: Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff is on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world. Listen, I’m sick of Sony and how they’re doing these villains but I love Aaron Taylor-Johnson so I’m interested in seeing him.
November
Trolls 3 – Nov 17: Plot Unknown. Trolls and Trolls: World Tour were so much fun and better than I expected! So I’m into it!
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes – Nov 17: Coriolanus Snow mentors and develops feelings for the female District 12 tribute during the 10th Hunger Games. This book was the weakest of The Hunger Games series, I also don’t like any of them lol, with Catching Fire being the best and the one I might like the most (the bar isn’t high lol), but I’m curious I guess lol.
Wish – Nov 22: 17-year-old Asha and her goat Valentino navigate Rosas, the kingdom of wishes, where wishes can literally come true. I don’t know much but I’m always down for a Disney movie and Ariana DeBose is voicing Asha.
December
Wonka – Dec 15: The story will focus specifically on a young Willy Wonka and how he met the Oompa-Loompas on one of his earliest adventures. Who exactly asked for this? I doubt anyone did but sure why not. I like Timotay and I’ll generally be interested in seeing what he comes out in. This would be something a little quirky for him. I have some ideas of movies I’d like to see him in but I’ll be keeping an eye out for this one.
The Color Purple – Dec 20: Musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel about the life-long struggles of an African American woman living in the south during the early 1900s. I liked the book, I like the 1985 movie just fine so I’ll be interested in seeing this new cast do the musical version in movie form.
Untitled Ghostbusters: Afterlife Sequel – Dec 20: After the events in Oklahoma, the Ghostbusters team returns to where it all started; New York City! The Spengler family story continues with a new group of Ghostbusters led by Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) and Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd). I thought the “first one” was cute, so why not.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom- Dec 25: Plot unknown. Sequel to the 2018 film ‘Aquaman.’ The first Aquaman was fun but whatever to me. Also, Amber Heard is still cast, so there’s that.
DATES TBD
Legally Blonde 3 : Plot unknown. Third installment of ‘Legally Blonde’. Know nothing about this movie but I like the first one a lot, so interested to see what other shenanigans Elle gets into.
What If…? – Season 2 (Disney+): Exploring pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turning them on their head, leading the audience into uncharted territory. I liked the first season enough and it’s the MCU so I’m interested in seeing what other versions of these stories they can show us.
Sister Act 3 – Disney+: Apparently… so we’ll see I guess lol.
Echo (Disney+): Maya Lopez must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward. I thought she was interested in Hawkeye, so I’m interested in seeing more of her story.
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (Netflix): Having pulled off an escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has found a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new threat, and Ginger and her team decide to break in. Ummm??? WHAT???? I gotta see this lol
They Cloned Tyrone: A series of eerie events thrusts an unlikely trio onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy in this pulpy mystery caper. This looks super interesting! Plus the main three cast are super awesome!
Looks like that’s it for now! Movies always pop up throughout the year that may not be on the list but that doesn’t mean I won’t see them lol.
