I haven’t done an anticipated movies list in a while. I wish I would have done on for 2021 but that’s okay, 2022 still has some good stuff coming out. But here we are again with a new year! Hopefully it’ll be much more positive than the last two years have been, for all of us.
We have new movies, new content, new actors and characters to meet and fall in love with, not to mention returning to ones we love and are familiar with. This list is for the movies coming out in 2022 that I’m excited for. I will also have a list of movies that I’m not really anticipating but I still would be interested in seeing.
Also, movies always pop up throughout the year that I didn’t know about, so they may not appear on this list. It’s also funny to see movies that should have come out in 2020 or 2021 appear on this list because of delays.
Anticipated Movies
January
February
March
April
Morbius- April 1: Biochemist Michael Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead. This movie has been pushed back again from January to April. Sony wants people to see this in the theaters lol. I’m very interested, it’s a comic book movie, so that’s always a draw for me, but I also like Jared Leto as an actor so doubly interested. It looks interested. I’m interested lol.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – April 8: Sequel to the 2020 live-action feature film ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’. I loooooooooooved the first one, it was so much fun! Knuckles and Tails are here and I’m super excited to see them. I’m also very curious to hear the rest of Idris Elba’s lines as Knuckles, since I was taken aback a bit by the trailers lol. I’m there!
Check out my Trailer Reaction to Sonic the Hedgehog 2
May
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – March 25: Dr. Stephen Strange casts a forbidden spell that opens the door to the multiverse, including an alternate version of himself, whose threat to humanity is too great for the combined forces of Strange, Wong, and Wanda Maximoff. I saw the sneak peek at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, I don’t know if the released trailer is what we saw in the movies, but I’m excited. It’s the MCU, Wanda is back and I’m very interested to see what happens!
John Wick: Chapter 4- May 27: Plot unknown. Sooooooo, another John Wick with Keanu Reeves? Sign me up please.
June
July
Thor: Love and Thunder- July 8: The sequel to Thor: Ragnarok and the fourth movie in the Thor saga. It’s pretty cool how the first Thor movie is kind of meh, the second one is considered bad and the third one is so great. I have high hopes for this one. It just sucks that Loki won’t be in it, but seeing Jane return and hopefully being a more interesting character. I saw a new look for Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and she looks great! I’m excited!
Nope – July 22: Potentially a sequel to “Get Out”. I loved Get Out and really liked Us, so I’m excited to see what this one is, not to mention, the confirmed cast is great.
August
September
Mission Impossible 7- Sept 30: Seventh entry in the long-running Mission: Impossible series. I love the Mission Impossible movies lol. I have enjoyed all of them after 3, which is also great. I’m excited on that it exists alone lol.
October
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One): Oct 7. Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered. The first one is a masterpiece, so I’m so excited for this one. The first look we saw is amazing. I’m so excited to see more of Miles.
Check out my trailer reaction to the First Look.
November
The Flash-Nov 4: The plot is unknown. Feature film based on the comic book superhero, The Flash. I enjoyed Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash and seeing how he was utilized in the ZSJL film, makes me excited for his movie. It’s been doing it’s thing for a long time and we finally have a date, but we’ll see if it sticks. I think it’s supposed to be the “Flashpoint” storyline, where Barry goes back in time to try and save his mother from dying and his father from being wrongly imprisoned… Michael Keaton is also supposed to be returning as Batman, so lots of interesting stuff here. I just hope that the movie and the characters are well written.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever- Nov 11. A sequel that will continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all the characters introduced in the 2018 film. So, the first movie is one of my favorite MCU films, it’s so good. There’s a lot of feelings because of Chadwick Boseman’s passing, but I’m sure they’ll find a way to honor his memory while keeping T’Challa alive. I’m excited to see more of Wakanda. It just sucks that Leticia Wright seems to be having and giving a hard time while filming. I hear the ending is being changed because of her… we’ll see.
Creed III – Nov 23: Third installment of the ‘Creed’ franchise. Uhhh, a third Creed movie and my husband is not only starring but directing???? Of course I’m there! I’ve enjoyed both Creed films, the first one being the better one so far, so I’m interested to see how the third one does.
December
Knives Out 2- Released expected in 2022: Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is back for another murder mystery, this time joined by Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke. Great cast. Loved the first Knives Out. It may not come out this year but if so, I’m excited for a new mystery!
Disenchanted – Disney+ Release : Ten years after her happily ever after, Giselle questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process. I’m not sure when this is coming out on Disney+ but I love Enchanted so I’m very excited to see the next part of Giselle’s story, it just sucks that she’s questioning her happy ending but I guess that’s life lol.
Hocus Pocus 2 – Disney+ Release: Three young women accidentally bring back the Sanderson Sisters to modern day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world. Not sure when this comes out but I loooooove Hocus Pocus, so I’m definitely interested in seeing what happens. I wonder if we’ll get cameos from any of the original characters besides the Sisters.
Movies I’m Not Anticipating but Want To See:
January:
The 355- Jan 7: Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Lupita Nyong’o and Diane Kruger team up for this globe-trotting action adventure. Each star is an international agent aiming to outperform their rivals and recover a top-secret weapon. I’ve seen the trailer for this a few times and it’s cool that it’s female-led and diverse so I’m interested but also meh lol
Hotel Transylvania: Transformania- Jan 14: The animation sees Count Dracula and his family get transformed into humans, and he must join forces with newly minted monster Johnny to figure out how to reverse the change. I think these movies are really cute and fun, so I’ll be interested in seeing them. Also, cool premise.
February
Death on the Nile- Feb 11: The iconic story sees the Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, go on holiday in Egypt, only for a terrible murder to take place that forces him to put his little grey cells to work. I enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express fine, it was predictable, but it was fine. This one looks more fun. Has a great cast as well. The only problems come from Armie Hammer and Letitcia Wright, which is interesting that this movie is still coming out.
Uncharted- Feb 18: The story is a prequel to the games, starring Holland as a younger Drake, showing us details of how he came to meet and befriend Sully. I was debating if I wanted to put it in this section or the “anticipated” one but I’m in the middle. I’m a fan of Tom Holland I want him to do well outside of Spider-Man, and this seems fun but maybe that’s about it lol.
Check out my Trailer Reaction!
March
The Batman- March 4: In his second year of fighting crime, Batman uncovers corruption in Gotham City that connects to his own family while facing a serial killer known as the Riddler. I’m excited for Robert Pattinson and for this cast but not for the movie overall lol. It’s… another Batman movie lol.
Check out my trailer reaction to The Batman
Turning Red- Mar 11: A 13-year-old girl named Mei Lee turns into a giant red panda whenever she gets too excited. I think this is a suuuuuuuuuper cute premise!
The Lost City- March 25: A reclusive romance novelist on a book tour with her cover model gets swept up in a kidnapping attempt that lands them both in a cutthroat jungle adventure. This stars Sandra Bullock (plus), Channing Tatum (meh) and Daniel Radcliffe (PLUS). I was gonna do a trailer reaction for this movie but changed my mind lol, but from the premise it seems like a fun time.
April
Ambulance – April 8: Two robbers steal an ambulance after their heist goes awry. I saw this trailer in the movies and while I think the trailer basically tells the entire movie, it seemed interesting. Not to mention, it stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Yaya Abdul-Mateen II, who are both great and dynamic on screen.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore- Apr 15: The third installment of the ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘ series which follows the adventures of Newt Scamander. This comes out on my birthday lol, but I’m going to watch it because it’s in the Harry Potter world and it seems more interesting than The Crimes of Grindelwald but meh lol.
Check out my trailer reaction for Fantastic Beasts 3.
May
Legally Blonde 3 – May 20: Plot unknown. Third installment of ‘Legally Blonde’. Know nothing about this movie but I like the first one a lot, so interested to see what other shenanigans Elle gets into.
DC League of Super Pets- May 20: When the Justice League are captured by Lex Luthor, Superman’s dog, Krypto, forms a team of shelter-pets who were given super-powers: A hound named Ace, who becomes super-strong, a pig named PB, who can grow to giant-size, a turtle named Merton, who becomes super-fast, and a squirrel named Chip, who gains electric-powers. The trailer is really cute, it seems like it would be really fun. I still think Kevin Hart is miscast as Ace Dog.
Check out my trailer reaction for DC League of Super Pets
Top Gun: Maverick- May 27: After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. I can’t remember if I’ve seen ALL of the original film, but I will watch it by time I decide to watch this one. I very much enjoy watching Tom Cruise because he puts his entire being into roles and I enjoy that.
June
Jurassic World: Dominion- June 10: Unknown plot. I’m assuming this is a straight continuation of the sequel where that little girl let all the dinosaurs out like a weirdo. I’m sure many people will be dying. Sure, I like Jurassic Park, so into it. Also, apparently many of the original cast has returned. Cool.
Lightyear-June 17: The story of Buzz Lightyear and his adventures to infinity and beyond. One of my boyfriends Chris Evans is voicing the character which is cool, I like Toy Story, and I like the fact that we’re seeing the backstory of the real man (in the Toy Story universe) that inspired the toy in the film series.
Check out my Trailer Reaction for Lightyear
Elvis- June 24: A look at the life of the legendary rock and roll star, Elvis Presley. I don’t particularly care, I just like Austin Butler who is playing Elvis AND Kodi Smit-McPhee is also in it and I’m a fan of him lol
July
Black Adam- July 29: Plot unknown. A spin-off from ‘Shazam!’ centering on the film’s anti-hero, Black Adam. I’m interested but I’m not like anticipating it, I don’t know a ton about this character but Dwayne Johnson is always a plus. He’s charismatic to see on screen and I’m sure he’s excited to be playing a comic book character. He basically is one already lol.
August
September
Don’t Worry Darling- Sept 23: A 1950’s housewife living with her husband in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets. Stars Florence Pugh, who I really like and Harry Styles, who I’m indifferent too, but I like his latest album. There seems to be some trailers but I don’t think they’re real lol but seems interesting.
October
November
December
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom- Dec 16: Plot unknown. Sequel to the 2018 film ‘Aquaman.’ The first one was fun but whatever to me. Also, Amber Heard is still cast, so there’s that.
Avatar 2- Dec 16: Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the planet of Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na’vi race to protect their planet. The first one is whatever lol, it’s amazing because of the technology and the look of the film, but the story was basic. But sure, I’ll check out the new one.
Super Mario Bros – December 21: A plumber named Mario travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess. Feature film adaptation of the popular video game. I just need to see how this works lol, is Chris Pratt doing an accent??? I’ve got to know.
Pinocchio–Release expected in 2022: Guillermo del Toro directs this movie…I’m curious to see how terrifying it will be lol. This is the not the remake that Disney is doing.
Looks like that’s it for now! Movies always pop up throughout the year that may not be on the list but that doesn’t mean I won’t see them lol.
